Anyone else miserably HOT??

So it's cool-ish in my house. We keep the temp set between 75 and 78 on any given day during the summer. But yesterday and today I am boiling HOT, to the point of feeling lethargic and faint and wanting to lay down all day and not move (poor DS).

I was feeling shaky and sweaty after just folding laundry, so right now I'm laying down in front of a fan, with an ice pack on the back of my neck, and STILL sweating and hot and miserable. If you touch my skin, it feels cool. The room itself "seems" cool...it's almost like an internal heat or something.

It's hard to explain, and I know I'm making no sense. Sorry. It's kind of freaking me out. I don't remember experiencing this during my first pregnancy. :/

Tell me I'm not alone! And tell me what you do to fix it! TIA ^:)^

Re: Anyone else miserably HOT??

  • I don't know if I'm much help because 75-78 in my house IS hot.  I keep it at 73-74 usually.  But, yes I have been running warmer than normal lately.  I notice it mostly after a shower when the bathroom is warm and I still have to get ready.  I get that shaky sick feeling too and have to sit down for a bit.

  • Normally I only get that way after I eat something with a lot of carbs. It's like having a cold shell on you but your still hot. What helped me last time was some ice water.
  • When we are home, I usually keep our house at 74 and that has always been fine. The past few months I have to turn it down to 72 or 70 while I'm asleep. If I don't, I wake up drenched in sweat multiple times throughout the night.

Also, my boss is always cold and when I'm out for appointments he turns the thermostat by my desk to 80! I'm in Texas and my office has windows facing the West, so by the afternoon it is so hot in here even when I keep it on 73. I had to tell him that 80 was just way too hot for this pregnant lady haha.
  • I have been having some serious hot flashes the last few days. I googled and they are pretty normal in pregnancy I guess. I never had them with my first two though.

  • I sweat a lot. Mostly at night with all the damn pillows. I don't wear pants at home either. If I go outside sweat drips off of me, it's quite sexy I'm sure. I've always been a sweaty person though. I'm a delicate flower.

  • I had no idea how much hotter the summer would feel with this extra weight. When we were in Texas this weekend I almost decided I didn't like Texas anymore because of how hot and humid it was. Crazy talk bc I love the Lone Star State! But seriously. So sweaty. So. Disgustingly. Sweaty.

It's funny to hear what everyone sets their thermostat at. Haha our house is cool when I turn it down to 76. If we're really feeling crazy I will go down to 75!!

  • All the time. Every single freaking day!

I also, before pregnancy, have just always had a warmer body temperature. I'm the crazy person wearing no socks and open back shoes in -45 celsius weather. I live in a place nick named "Winter"peg (Winnipeg) and I only wear a thinner fall coat. I'm hot always.

This furnace I'm currently birthing is slowly killing me!

  • Well, we keep our AC at 73 or lower! So I'd be roasting too at 75! That is not cool in my book!

Fwiw, both of my girls were born in January and I was always so warm, I rarely wore a coat. And I'm in PA, so it's not like I'm in Florida or anything. ;) Hope you get some relief soon!

  • I run hot now as well.  We keep our bedroom around 65 at night (DH and I like it cold) Last night I still felt hot! I didn't need covers like I normally would.  I sweat way more now being pregnant. Its annoying.

  • I have been running a lot warmer lately, and wanting the ceiling and/or house fan on almost all the time (our AC broke at the beginning of the summer).

Yesterday at my ultrasound, I started feeling like you're reporting by laying flat on my back for too long. The ultrasound tech gave me a cool cloth to put on my forehead and one for my belly (after I rolled onto my side.) She also offered me a cookie, juice, and ice water. The cookie made me feel better, but it was awful for a little bit. So maybe related to blood pressure like a PP suggested? Hope you find some relief soon!

  • I've always been hot-natured, but being pregnant takes it to a whole new level.  Since mid-May, if I'm at home, I have a box fan pointed at me at all times.  Even in the bathroom while I shower.  The A/C does not go above 72.  At night I sleep with the A/C blasting, the fan on high, on top of the covers, with an icepack, and I'm still sweating, while FI huddles under his blankets.

The weird part is, between 8-10pm my hands, feet, and face get burning hot to the touch (normally like ice) and I feel so uncomfortable and sick.  I end up with 3 icepacks tucked around me (neck, held to my face, under feet) for a couple of hours.

  • YES! I am SO hot all the time! It's normal for pregnancy to make your temp higher. I turn the AC down at night to keep from dying and sit with a fan on me most of the day..ha!

  • Interesting to see how cool you ladies keep your houses! I thought 75-78 was average. :P

Thanks for all the ideas. I put the ice on my wrists too, and that helped quite a bit. Glad to know I'm not alone/crazy!

  • I'm always hot! I've has the ac set to 66, and my hubby is freezing. I have two fans on at night overhead. And once going to me but I'm still hot!

My blood pressure does get super low, and I've fainted because of it. I was taken to hospital for it, my ob said to snack every 2 hours.

  • i would get 'waves' of this with my last pregnancy.  usually when my sugar was low.  i'd get flaming hot and feel faint and if i didn't grab a candy bar or soda asap i'd start to see spots.  take it easy for a bit and eat something.  maybe that will help :)

i keep our thermostat at 76 for summer but i've allowed myself to drop it to 75 lately... such a rebel, ha ha !

  • Normally I am always freezing but not right now! We keep our home between 70-72 degrees and even that can sometimes feel hot if I start working on something. I also feel out of breath and I pant a lot when going up stairs. Sometimes I get shaky. All this even when I workout almost everyday!

On top of it all, the A/C in our car seems to be going out. Ugh!

I think it's the hormones and then also carrying this very warm being inside of us. All I do is take breaks and drink cold water when I need to.

  • @Nicb13‌ Just turned the thermostat down to 74...hoping DH doesn't mind too much. Lol, I will have to show him this thread as evidence that we are living in a sauna!

Also, I thought eating would make me feel hotter! You know, digesting and metabolizing food and all that jazz...am I not thinking of this right? Maybe I should eat something!

  • Holy shit, I can't imagine setting the thermostat to above 70 in the Summer. No way, I'd be hot even if I wasn't pregnant.

I live in WA state, so it usually isn't terribly hot or muggy (although these past two months it has been pretty hot for us), so we don't keep our AC on all day. In the morning, windows get opened up and fans on. Then, when it gets too hot for that, usually around 2-3pm, AC gets turned on (usually set between 68-69º) and then turned off around 9pm.

You have AC in WA?! I could really it use it right about now.
For the first time ever! It was a HUGE selling point for us buying this house (mild fixer upper, needed new exterior paint, new windows, upgrade the counters, etc.)

  • I have the a/c set to 64 in my classroom and it's still too hot.  We have no a/c at home, so I spend a lot of my days not wearing pants.
  • Having a fan blow directly on me helps. I brought one into work and I even brought it into a hearing and put it under a table so I could have it blowing on me. I start to feel sick if I get hot.

Ok, so this is NOT a pregnancy symptom...

DH just walked in and agreed that it was hot, looked at the thermostat and declared our AC BROKEN!!! How I didn't notice what the actual temp was in the house, I have no idea, but it's like 85 degrees in here!!

    Facepalm

Lol! Sorry your a/c is out though!

  • @Emerald27 Oh no! Sorry about your a/c! I am hot all the time too. We also keep our a/c around 77/78 degrees. I tried to get my husband to put a window unit in our bedroom because I get so hot at night. He refused since we have central air, but I always drop it a degree or 2 before I go up to bed. :)

  • We have no a/c so we just rely on ceiling fans... But the rest of the time our heater kicks in around 68...this summer is killing me. (Our house is over 74 right now)
  • I'm sure I've mentioned living in Phoenix before... I actually don't mind our crazy hot summers here but my office building (and specifically my AC unit) is ALWAYS going out! There have been some days that the AC is actually blowing hot air... no bueno! One day, I checked the temp and it said it was 93 degrees in the room.

I have to constantly keep a fan blowing on my face at all times. All I can hear in the back of my mind when I'm downing water all day long is "but it's a dry heat". X(

  • I feel like we are slightly ridiculous after reading all these posts... We have a super energy efficient system installed in our house so I've taken full advantage this year and have had the temp at 68 since June... Lol I now have a cool mist humidifier beside my bed for when I sleep at night which does wonders too. I feel like I've bought more deodorant this summer then I have in the past 5 years....
  • @justaudrey‌ I HATE when people say it's a dry heat!! I went to school there and it was miserable from April to mid October. When it's hot it's hot!!
  • I'd feel the same way if my house stayed 75-78 degrees, no thanks... mine stays around 72-73.
