Desperately seeking some potty training wisdom

DS will be 4 yrs old in November and is still only doing #2 in pull ups. He is totally fine doing #1, we've hardly had any accidents over the past year and a half. Even the women at daycare shrug their shoulders b/c they're not quite sure what to do.
I've asked them to not give him anymore pull-ups about 6 months ago, but instead of going on the toilet at school, he'll wait (ALL DAY) to go at home.

Now I've been getting stressed over it b/c he's supposed to start preschool in just a few weeks and one of the requirements is that they are completely potty trained. I don't necessarily think they won't let him go b/c of it, but I'd really like to just find a way for him to make his peace with the potty already.

To give you an idea, he sat (on and off) on the toilet for about an hour tonight, sits some time in the morning. Nothing. Sometimes we give hima phone to play with, sometimes nothing, sometimes a book, sometimes I sit with him. I tried bribing him :) He whines and cries and whines and cries, then settles down, then gets off the toilet, then starts running around b/c he has to go and I put him on and nothing. He has a will of steal.

I tried asking him if he afraid or what was wrong, no response.
And yes, I just wrote 4 paragraphs about my son's pooping habits. ugh
I really just don't know what to do, any insight would help.

  • I read about a difficult to poop train kid. OP had DS poop in pull up in bathroom. Once mastered I guess, kid sat on toliet, but pooped in pull up. Next step was to cut a hole in pull up. After that, they got rid of pull up. I never dealt with this personally, but this may work,

  • My son wasn't quite as difficult as you're describing, but I was struggling with it for a couple months. We put large mirror next to the toilet, and he was trained that day. He loves to watch himself go. Worth a shot. Good luck.

I read that too, I forget where. He's been pooping in the pull up in the bathroom for months. I only just started enforcing the actual sitting down a couple weeks ago. But thanks for the help!

  • Reese poops on the potty but not as regular. Last week she didn't go at all for about 3 or 4 days. So on the 4th day I gave some miralax and tons of apple juice and a warm bath. At the end of the night, she finally went. She told me that she kept on "forgetting to squeeze the poop out." Now we remind her to "squeeze the poop".
