What's the best deal you've gotten lately?

I was inspired by people talking about good deals in another thread to post this. As a hardcore bargain hunter/sale shopper, I'm always looking for ways to buy things cheaper when I can. I will never not check the internet for a code or a coupon and I'm always looking for innovative ways to do something for less that is normally hard to discount. Anyone else a deal hunter? What's your best recent deal? Brag away!

Here's mine: We recently booked a 5 day Disneyworld vacation for 3 for a grand total of $900, which includes 5 days staying on the resort (Art of Animation), 3 at the parks, airfare (Delta), transfers to and from the hotel and a rental car for a day to take a day trip at the end to visit my dad while we're down there. I had ordered the Disney vacation planning cd awhile back and have been getting deals sent to me ever since so I hopped on a deal for November where we got the hotel for only $89/night. Transfer to and from the airport is free since we're staying on the resort. No discounts on the park tickets other than multiday. Airfare was completely free. I opened up a Chase Sapphire card earlier this year-- it's a travel specific card and you get 50,000 points just for opening the card, which is enough for 2 free tickets. We just made it our primary card and used it exclusively for EVERYTHING this year and we had plenty of points to get al of our airfare free plus a free car rental. Plus, it was actually cheaper to book the airfare through the credit card company-- it was about 15% cheaper than the next cheapest airfare I could find (they claim it's 20% but it wasn't quite that good). There's an annual fee on it but I just have to close the card before the end of the year (we have pristine credit so closing a card for this purpose now and then isn't a big deal to us). After the trip, I'm going to transfer all the remaining points to another Chase card and close the Sapphire card. Then we'll wait a few months and have my husband open one in his name for the points and start building again for the next trip! I'm hoping to do this indefinitely, lol.

@HopingforChange‌ That is a great deal! Our closet OUAC is like 45 minutes away so it blows my deal margin in gas alone-- that and it kills half my day. I'd love to have that option, too. I love trolling racks. I buy mostly Gymboree online and try to average between $3 and $5 an item with sales, coupons and rewards. It's kind of amazing how cheap you can get things down from the sticker price.

  • @eyenigh The lack of a OUAC is rough. I sometimes drive 30 minutes to our nice one (fancier area, so better clothes), but only if I have other stuff to do up there. 45 minutes is too far. :( I think 3 to 5 dollars is pretty good for new Gymboree stuff! I loooove the panda line they have out now. I hope some of it goes on clearance!

  • @HopingForChange Even though we don't have a lot of consignment options, we have a ton of mom-to-mom sales in the fall and spring and there's a lot of good deals to be had there if you're willing to sift. I'm finding that the larger the sizes get for boys though, the more beat up they look because, well, they become little boys!

  • Another avid OUAC shopper here!

Last week I went to a company sample sale ( I work for a footwear company) and I got a pair of dressy sandals that retail for 595 for 35.00! I won't say the name, but it's a lesser know boutique type of brand that fashionistas love.

    Yay shoes!

Do you own tons of shoes then? That's amazing!

  • @eyenigh Sometimes sifting is worth it! I SAH so Thursdays in the summer are often garage sale days. I had to freeze tomatoes this AM, but I'm hoping to get out this afternoon.

  • I just bought a few things at a consignment sale (that I'm also selling at).  A Ralph Lauren shirt for DS for $2.50 plus some other cute stuff.  H&M has a 20% off $50 coupon on kids clothes plus $9.95 mix and match t-shirt and pants for kids (that's $9.95 for BOTH) and you can combine those deals. I got 5 shirts, four pants and a pack of undies for DS for $46.
  • Well, let's see. I did pick up a lot of pants, raincoat, pullover and other clothes for DS at a consignment sale for $45. Not too shabby. Oh yea I can't forget about the fact that I found him a Disney Planes beach towel at their site for $6. Great end of season deal, right? Well (cough, cough) I ended up buying $75 worth of merch to qualify for the free shipping. LOL. All items were Christmas gifts though, so that's how I'm justifying the purchase. Even better than that, I let my cousin tryout my DS's cloth diapers on her 7-month-old DS. Now she wants to use the rest of my diapers. I told her she could have them if she paid for shipping. Great deal for her, I'd say :)

  • I bought a Pavillion 70 at TRU for $25. It was 250 with 90% off.
