Sleeping/Nursing/Breaking bad habits

I need advice/experiences on how to get my baby to sleep better. She is over one and I am still nursing. We also room share (which isn't changing just yet). My baby has a habit of standing the second her eyes open and wants me to put her back to sleep by nursing her. She is a lot better than she used to be but still is waking up about 3 times a night. I don't mind nursing her, but three times at this age seems a bit excessive. I really do not think it's because she is hungry, I think it is just for comfort and out of habit.
Any advice how to slowly break this habit? I really think the main issue is she has a habit of standing the second she starts to wake up. Her eyes will still be closed. Sometimes I can lay her back down and say "night night" and she'll go back to sleep without a fight but that's not the case 99% of the time.
Any advice is appreciated :)

  • DS1 was like this until he turned about 14 months. I nursed him about 3 times per night. Then it was like he flipped a switch and became an awesome sleeper, sleeping from 7:30pm-8:30am straight usually. Just want to give you some hope that they sometimes grow out of things naturally.

  • I night-weaned VERY slowly with DD, starting at 15min per session and cutting back by a minute every three days or whatever was convenient. When we got to three minutes I stopped nursing entirely and offered water and a hug instead. One night of that and it was over, very little crying. Like 30 seconds or less if at all each time. She was also waking up thrice and I was exhausted. Good luck!
