Umbilical Stub Question

Hi ladies,

Had my little girl Saturday night (Reagan!!) and we had our first check up this morning. My question is this: dr said umbilical stub should fall off 7-10 days after delivery. Just was changing and noticed it was hanging on by a thread, fine. Should I worry that it's coming off so soon? It looks gross underneath, kind of like puss and I don't even know if what's under the outside stub will also dry up or if I should call when it falls off. Thanks ladies!

    I think it's probably fine but call the pedi if you're concerned. DS was born Saturday too and hers is starting to fall off also

    My doctor said 5 days to 2 weeks and LO's fell off after five days as well. The pediatrician may apply something to it to seal it up (forget what it is called). The puss is normal though and so is light bleeding. I wouldn't worry about it but do call the pedi if you are concerned, they can probably answer over the phone...

    With #1, it fell off by day 3.  The pediatrician was concerned that it was still opened and used silver nitrate to cauterize it.  I'm not sure how she determined it was a problem, we were already there for a check-up when she noticed it.  I hadn't been concerned.  #2 was born last Thurs and just fell off this morning.

    Thank you ladies so much! With my son it fell off somewhere around 10 days so I just wasn't too sure. So glad to hear it's not anything too severe! Will def keep an eye and call if necessary.

    My MW told me today that they tell all moms to ignore the stump. It will fall off on its own. It will stink, ooze, and turn different colours but to ignore it

    My son's came off super early and the belly button stayed weepy for I think another week. His pedi had me just cover it with a bandaid and still keep it dry until the weepiness dried up. I think. It's been 18 months and I'm kind of hazy.

    DD didn't lose hers until day 21.
    DS is at day 15 and still has his.

    How come my babies hang on to theirs so long?!

    Last time they said to leave it alone. This time they said to use alcohol and we've only done that a handful of times.

    Ok now I'm wondering what is up with my DDs! She lost a big part of hers at day 10 but there is still a little black plug still in there at day 15. Is it okay to come off in more than one piece?

    We are at day 9 and the pediatrician said hers doesn't look like it will be falling off anytime soon...hmmm.
