Daycare/work schedule

I have to return to work in 3 weeks and my LO will have to start full time daycare. He will be 11 1/2 weeks. What type of schedule should he be on? So far he doesn't have much of a schedule. He eats every 3/3.5 hours ( rarely less) and at night has a good schedule for going to sleep and usually sleeps 5/6 hour stretches from 9-7. I have no nap schedule and according to the daycare they don't force any schedule on the kids as a group. At home I loosely follow an eat/wake/sleep routine. What should I do to help with the transition? Also I need to leave for work at 7 and my husband will be taking him to daycare at he same time. If I want to breastfeed him and pump in the morning does it make sense to wake him at 5, feed him, and then let him nap again till 7? (I'd pump at 6:45) or do I wake up at 5/5:30 and pump and then breastfeed him at 6:30?

Re: Daycare/work schedule

  • I just went back to work this week. I also have to leave at 7, my baby normally wakes up sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 to eat and then goes back to sleep so I've just started setting my alarm for 5 and feed her and then pump again before leaving.

If it is too close to the last time he fed, however, you should probably do the reverse as he might not be hungry enough to get a full feeding in.

  • I've got a similar question....my LO is on a pretty good schedule (except for today of course) when it comes to naps. Do most daycares take requests for specific nap times in the infant room?

  • @jwatts87‌ do u treat the 5am feeding like a MOTN feeding (no lights, quiet, swaddle)? Or is it a Morning wake up feeding?
  • @ElTrain5‌ My day care had the infants lead their own schedules. Around 12-15 months they start what they call toddler boot camp to get them on the same schedule as the next room up (lunch at 11:45, one nap right after lunch). It was easier for us to follow daycares schedule at that point.

As far as a morning schedule, I think c also fell into that as she got on a schedule at daycare. We did a wake up feed around 6:30 after I had gotten up and taken a quick shower, then left the house around 7:30. I often saw other infants getting dropped off still sleeping and having breakfast there, so I don't think daycare minded either way, its whatever works best for you.

Definitely MOTN feeding. I'm trying to keep her normal routine at home as much the same as possible so since her normal wake up time isn't until 7-8, I let her sleep as long as I can.
