April 2014 Moms

Fertility Friend

LO was born 3/29 so we're on the early end of those with April due dates, but I've started thinking about baby #2... And my DH keeps saying stuff like, "I miss our baby burrito". But current LO is a tough customer (a million wake ups at night and fussy most of the day) so we're not really ready now. But we have talked about stopping prevention in December/January. So if it happened right away they'd be like18 months apart, which seems great. Anyone else planning that schedule? Are you impatient or dreading it? I'm both right now! Plus I EBF so it's very possible the wait could be a lot longer, but we got KU like the first day trying with this LO, so maybe it will be that way again...

Re: Fertility Friend

  • I wanted to start in jan/feb but since I ended up with a c section, we will probably wait until April or after.

  • I'd like to start trying early next year but I may be changing jobs so we'll see. I used FF last time and probably will again.
  • Similar boat here. Why would the wait be longer cos you EBF? Has your period started back yet? Mine just started back and LO is 16 weeks.
  • I used ff last time.

DH and I are thinking of trying when I'm fertile again. I also EBF. We aren't preventing right now.

But we've only had sex successfully once and I'm 15.5 weeks pp.

  • My understanding is that you shouldn't count on breast feeding as birth control but that it can prevent cycling for a long time. She'll be 20 weeks on Saturday and no period yet.

It's pretty safe when you EBF and have LO at the breast all the time. DH and I spoke about how I may become fertile again now that I'm at work and pumping 4 days a week. When LO starts eating food the likely hood of being fertile will increase again.

Abstinence is 100% effective though... Poor DH. Hoping my drive returns soon... Or baby #2 won't be here for a long time.
  • My cycle didn't return until DS1 was 13 months and my luteal phase (time after ovulation) didn't get long enough to get pregnant again until DS1 was more like 18 months old. I didn't get pregnant with DS2 until DS1 weaned completely at 20 months. I use Kindara, which I think is kind of like FF.

Anyway, for some women, breastfeeding can indeed space children pretty far, sometimes more than you'd like.

  • You dint need a pp period to be able to get pregnant again. Breast feeding does not prevent, and chances are you could be very fertile. People not understanding this is what leads to a lot of Irish twins and "surprise" babies

I am aware it is not foolproof but breast feeding does indeed reduce fertility for many woman.

We'll likely start trying again in July. I EBF but no real bc so it could technically happen sooner. I'd like another spring baby (I'm a teacher) preferably right around when DD is turning 2. But we'll see how it goes :)
I used FF last time and loved so I will again for sure.
Really stupid question - is it worth starting to chart if my period hasn't come back yet?

  • We're waiting until next summer to start trying.  I really enjoyed having a spring baby.  So DS will be about 2 when baby #2 comes along.

Plus this is a thread about wanting another baby... I'd personally be happy with a suprise. :)

I remember some women in the TTC board trying to track but I think temps can be all over the place?
  • We would be TTC right now but I had a c section. DH and I decided that started valentines day we will stop preventing and just see what happens. I think this is a hard age that our babies are at. They are starting to phase out of the newborn stage which is really sad to me! I think that is why I want another baby. Haha

  • Funny that you guys want another spring baby, I'd like to avoid that if I can... Summers in MN are just so short and I've felt like I missed this one. So if baby #2 is born fall 2015, I would have all summer 2015 to catch up on cabins, boats, picnics, ect that have been tough summer 2014. In theory doing stuff and/or getting a sitter for a 14 month old is easier then for a 2 month old, right? Plus this means baby #2 would be like 8 months by summer 2016, so that summer would be more fun too!
  • @Pearlvirus‌, I feel the same way! I'm in western WI, so almost MN, and it doesn't help that we've had such a mild summer with so many cool days. I feel like a bad mom because DS1 has only gotten to swim in the kiddie pool twice this summer.

I'm in MN too and absolutely loved the timing of a spring baby!  I am out and about with DS very often and just know that it wouldn't be the same if he was born during the cold months.  I definitely would have felt very cooped up if it was winter time and it was too cold to go outside.

  • If we don't get pregnant by Feb, Id like to skip March because I don't want a Christmas baby. DH thinks that's silly, but that time of year is so busy w/o a newborn and I think it would suck to have a Dec birthday. As a kid I felt kind of bad for those who alway got combo birthday/Xmas gifts and whose parties conflicted with holiday parties or out of town family visits. I was born in June so the excitement and specialness was perfectly spaces, ha!
  • I hate hormonal BC so we decided that after LO's birthday we would switch to FAM for BC. That way if I screw up and do get pregnant again at least they won't super close. Ideally we would do the same as last time and get pregnant when LO is about 18 months. I have felt like the age gap between my boys is just about perfect.

  • Have not had a period yet and not using any bc. I usually don't get a period for 6 to 7 months after delivery. I will take another baby as soon as we are blessed for it to happen. My oldest is 15 years old so hopefully it doesn't take to long : )
