Kindergarten is so hard!

Poor DS. This is his first full week. I am working long hours for 12 days straight. The nanny, who started part time last week, is taking DS to school and picking him up. He had a total meltdown after I left for work this morning. Our nanny is awesome, but of course it will take time for him to bond with her.

My mom was able to come cheer him up a little after school today. And he told me some stuff about his day. He seems to like Spanish class, which he has every day. I think it's going ok, it's just hard.

Who can cheer me up with a triumph over kindergarten story?
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.

    Have you read "The Kissing Hand" with him? It's a sweet book about starting school.  DD read it at the beginning of kindie last year, and she loved it. 

    It will get better!  It's just a big change for him.

    We start in 2 weeks. I'm scared. I'll let you know how it goes. And wow Spanish class? My kid barely knows English. :)

    When my DS was born, I left teaching and did private tutoring 2 evenings a week.  So for DS's entire life before K, I was home during most of the day.

    My return to the classroom coincided with his start of K.  My DD was in 5th grade at the time and went to a magnet school with a distant bus stop, so we needed a babysitter/transportation for b/a care.  That was an adjustment for the kids.

    The first few weeks were rough, as I was getting used to the faster pace of being back in the classroom and feeling terribly guilty because I wasn't there for every moment with my son.  When my DD was in K, I helped in the classroom, made snacks for every class party, blah blah.  But I was also feeling partially guilty because I was really happy to be working again and done being a SAHM, honestly.

    Mostly it was the hectic pace of things and the feeling that we had NO free time that made me crazy!  I remember how tired everyone was by Friday for the first few weeks of school!

    After a few weeks, though, everyone had adjusted and things were running on rails.  You'll get there!
    High School English teacher and mom of 2 kids:

    DD, born 9/06/00 -- 12th grade
    DS, born 8/25/04 -- 7th grade

    Hang in there; hope he adjusts soon and starts bonding with the nanny and enjoying K! I know it's a huge adjustment.

    Thanks, everyone! They read the kissing hand at school, and his teacher sent home paper hearts for parents to kiss and send back. DS was tearful but not a complete mess when I left for work today. Nanny texted me that drop off went better. And I took a few minutes to Face Time with the kids after school. I like the note in the lunchbox idea. I'll do that tomorrow.
