Trouble TTC

N3TR: RIP Robin Williams

I am so sad about the loss of this great man.

I have suffered depression, my mother battles depression, many in my family have suffered. It is such a tragic illness. My uncle contemplated suicide a long time ago. I am so thankful that he had the support system needed to overcome his battle.

My heart aches for Robin's family. He touched the hearts of so many. I have many fond childhood memories of watching his films. My all time favorite is Patch Adams.

Such a sad day. :(

  • Yes, I think a lot of people (including me) focus on depression with younger people, but it's obviously a bigger problem.  So sad b/c a lot of the roles he played were as mentors, and there are so many movies of his we all loved :(

    It broke my heart too.

But it upset me when I saw a Facebook post by my coworker "how can you be so funny and talented and think that's your only option. I don't get it." Really? Obviously there was a lot more going on than what you saw in his movies. :(

Many prayers to his family and friends.

  • I agree! I don't typically care about celebrity news, but I am very sad about this news.  My family also has a history of depression and suicide.  This is the major reason I am becoming a therapist.  There is help for depression and suicidal ideation!

Has anyone seen Patch Adams?  One of Robin Williams's lesser acclaimed films, but a VERY good commentary on the importance of getting help (aside from the cancer theme, it really highlights the psychological issues the characters have).

  • It is amazing to me how depression and suicide has touched so many people's lives and it is still a taboo topic.  You ladies are amazing and I'm so glad you can all speak about your own personal experiences relating to this (if not in real life, than at least here).

  • I definitely feel like a piece of childhood has died.  I just can't imagine a man who brought so much joy and laughter was in such pain.  It is such an incredible loss.

I don't know what I would do without my prozac.  My RE suggested I stop taking it because of possible risk of birth defects, but that's just not gonna happen.

    Very sad indeed

I Also have a history of depression and have looked up to Mr Williams for a very long time. It's sad that he has lost this battle.
Mask Creatures: [with increasing intensity] Mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy, mummy.
The Doctor: Go to your room.
    [mask creatures stop]
The Doctor: Go to your room! I mean it. I am very, very angry with you. I'm very, very cross. Go... To... Your... Room!
[mask creatures turn and go back to their beds]
The Doctor: [sighing] I'm really glad that worked. Those would have been terrible last words.

  • It is very sad. I've struggled with depression for 19 years since I was 12. I understand what it feels like to think there is no options. My faith, my husband and have been a big support to me. I pray that everyone struggling has someone in their life to lean on. I also pray for Williams family as they grieve this sad loss
  • Yes, this really touched me as well. After my mom died 3 years ago, I was in a really, really bad place. I really know what it feels like to be hopeless, thank God I had DH and my brother. There is no way I would have gotten through that kind of depression alone. It is so sad that he lost his battle.

  • My heart ached immediately when I saw the headline on CNN while I was at the gym.  :(  It's so unbelievably sad!  He made the world a better place, truly.  I feel like people have a tendency to act like a celebrity's death is a loss that will somehow profoundly affect their life.  I just don't get it oftentimes.  But in this case - I feel it.  He was so funny.  So talented.  Mrs Doubtfire is a fond childhood memory.  There's just this kindness in his eyes ....thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.  May his family find peace during this difficult time.

July 2014 - Repeat ultrasound done to measure size of fibroid - 8x9cm (the size of a grapefruit!) Surgery referral made.
August 2014 - MRI done which revealed 2 fibroids: a 13x15cm fibroid as well as an 8x7cm one.  Super freak out mode over surgery plan.  OB-GYN/surgeon said surgery would most likely have to be a laparotomy (open abdominal surgery)
August 2014 - After a 2nd opinion, plan to take Lupron x 2 months to shrink fibroids then laparoscopic/robotic myomectomy.  Surgery date is set for Nov 21st!
November 2014 - Robotic myomectomy done (2 large fibroids removed, mild endo found).  Benched x 3 months

    PAIF/SAIF welcome
