Real Cups?

How often are you using real cups for LO's beverages?

We have tried them at dinner a couple of times but usually they get slurped and then dumped and then she cries if I refuse to refill it for the third time.  The little boy at DC is 10 weeks older and using them exclusively.  I am wondering if I am just being lazy since she uses straw cups so well.

She takes sips from mine and the dinner practice maybe 2x a week but so far that is it.

Re: Real Cups?

  • She has been able to use a real cup with some degree of success forever, but problems persist.  If it is water in the cup, she thinks she should put her hands in it and play, so it eventually spills and little is consumed.  If it contains some juice, she tries to drink, but isn't very neat, so she has stains all down her front and a mess around her high chair.  We really need to work on drinking in the yard or the tub because then the mess won't matter so much.

  • Our DCP makes them use real cups, so he's getting better, but at home we still use sippies. He does the same with dumping them when he gets bored. It's not anything to do with being "able" to use them, because he can, but dumping them is just SO FUN. Haha. I think it's still age appropriate to use sippies.

  • You ladies are brave, I haven't even thought of giving him a real cup, I let him drink out of mine, but I hold it the entire time.

This. My nephew is also 3.5 and still uses sippies. No reason to switch, IMO.

  • Ok good at least I'm not behind the eight ball here.  Sometimes things that are hard (i.e potty training, cups, etc) make me laaaazy. :)

  • Dd can do a water bottle but we only give it if she asks. She does good, She doesn't put her whole mouth over it like some kids do. I still prefer spill proof though.

  • I give her a small plastic cup like a kids cup at a restaurant at home without a lid. I just put a couple ounces of water or juice and she does pretty well. Sometimes she spills more than she drinks but she really loves to try.
