Contains talk of kids: It's been a long time....

So I frequented this boards often when I was TTC my first. I have PCOS and it took us 2+ years Femara to get PG. Then I had a quick turnaround and got PG with my 2nd.  My DD is now 6 and my DS is 4.

Now here we are again. We tried for 1.5 years again for a 3rd and it isn't happening.  I have done 3 rounds of Femara and am currently what I think is 5DPO.  I am so nervous and praying it works.

I have a question though, since O my nipples have been hard...almost like I'm cold but I'm not...Now I'm 5DPO, they are still erect most of the day and I am STARVING...I am sure I am reading into this, just wondering if anyone has experienced that.

Also this morning I decided to start temping Vaginally since I sleep with my mouth open.  My oral temp was 97.18 and my vag temp was 97.90 (different thermometers, don't worry)  Is that big a difference normal.
Thanks for any insight, encouragement :)

Hey there, GL on trying for your third.

A word of warning though....you should put a warning in the title of this post.  Anyone having a bad IF day might get blindsided by this mention of two children when most of us haven't even had one.

I noticed that she's posted something similar to this before and that she didn't respond to requests to add a warning so maybe we should just post a thread warning others not to read it?

Good call, @kmdecoux. I hadn't looked at her post history until now.

OP, please edit your post to include a warning in the title regarding the mention of children. At 5dpo, you are not going to be experiencing pregnancy symptoms. I'd recommend you turn the AC down and eat a sandwich.
@iputketchuponketchup, I'm home and bored. haha Come next week, once I'm back to work, I won't be anywhere near as quick to respond!

I wanted to apologize. I was in a meeting for work. My intention was never to be harmful to anyone. I know all too well what it feels like to be infertile and wonder if you day is ever coming. I know it's too early too tell. I was just looking for support. I can't others around me. I am sorry if I offended anyone.
I was more curious about temping. I don't ovulate on my own or even on meds most times. So trying to understand if vaginal temping is more accurate.
  • Thanks for adjusting the title and apology. Welcome.

There is a weekly 3t thread where we usually post 2WW type stuff in. The daily "symptom spotting" isn't really something we do here. Usually, by the time we are in 3T we know that nothing is really "real" until beta. Also, 5dpo is too early for anything, however you could be having leftover symptoms from the femara? I have been hungrier than usual this cycle and I took femara too.

Also, vaginal temps are higher than oral temps so that is probably what changed your temp today. Usually it's recommended to choose one way for the whole cycle otherwise the shift will be wrong. Good luck!

  • Yes, thank you for the edited headline! I know I had so many psychosomatic symptoms when we first made our decision to try. And now that I know we can't conceive without help, they've disappeared. They'll probably return for the first medicated cycle since I know I'll be obsessing.

I think the symptoms get worse the more you focus on the idea of getting pregnant. Some university needs to do a controlled study on that!!! I'm sorry it's confusing, but fingers crossed for you. Keep us updated when your more days past o (with headline warnings, please...in case anyone is having a bad IF day).

Are you seeing a RE? DId you trigger? I'm just curious since you said sometimes you don't O on meds.

Also, as far as temping goes vaginal temping is *usually* more consistent and the spike is smaller. Supposedly, it is less influenced by outside factors and if you sleep with your mouth open it can help avoid problems with that. We recommend fertility friend website to learn about temping. However, if you're taking medicines like femara etc. sometimes they can change temps and also some things like progesterone will keep temps higher anyway. hope that helps!

  • Thanks for editing your title.

I agree with pp that if you're on a medicated cycle, it may not be worth it to temp as the medications can mess with temps. Are you being monitored for ovulation by your doctor?

Haha! Yeah, I don't do it but over on TTGP there are some that do. I hadn't heard of it before the bump either though! Although, there were a lot of things I hadn't heard of before I started lurking!

Agree with PP that 5dpo is way too early for anything but psychosomatic symptoms.  And I had no idea that vaginal temping was a thing.  Learn something new every day I guess!

@bkbaby3 and @kmdecouxI temp vaginally. I'm a mouth breather, and I tend to wake up throughout the night to drink water. If I temp orally, my temps end up all over the place, but temping vaginally works well for me. It's actually one of the settings you can choose on FF, but I don't think it really matters to FF if you're temping orally or vaginally.

  • Thanks for all the responses and advice.  I did not know there was a setting in Fertility friend to change how temps were taken. The only reason I was doing it is because I am a mouth breather and get up often to go to the bathroom.

Also, my RE does not monitor which is something I have been fighting.  It is frustrating.  They don't even do day 21 or Progesterone testing. I may ask to be referred to the large medical hospital if this doesn't work.  It's hard always wondering and not having any answers, that's when I start to make up crazy symptoms I think.

I have never heard of on RE that doesn't do any monitoring! I'd DEFINITELY seek out a second opinion ASAP.

  • Hi there, welcome back. Thanks for taking the feedback so kindly.

I'm so glad Femara worked for you before, and I hope it does again soon!

When you say no monitoring...does your RE use ultrasound and/or bloodwork to check on follicle growth, count your mature follicles, and make sure you don't end up with higher order multiples or a dangerous rupturing cyst?

Or does your RE actually just give you the prescription and send you on your merry way to temp and BD and hope you O'ed based on temps and hope you timed it well based on temps and hope nothing bad happens?

If so, I've never heard of anything like that from an RE! I would urge you to switch doctors if they have pooh-poohed your request for monitoring.

The day 21 progesterone is not really crucial if you have a fine luteal phase, I believe, but someone else please correct me if I'm wrong. :)
