I can't believe I just got into with my neighbor! UPDATED!!

I'm so mad right now my head hurts and I need to vent. I was expecting a visitor and heard my dog going crazy, so I looked out the window but my visitor wasn't here. I look to see what my dog is barking at. Well, it's my neighbor, with her boyfriend and her son. As I'm watching, I see the kid lift up a BB gun and shoot our camper.  X( what the heck????? I see the mom and her Bf look at my camper, laugh and keep walking. So I flung my door open and hollered "did you just really shoot my camper?" The mom flipped out on me saying "I don't want your property, I've lived here 40 years, mind your business, blah blah blah, then screamed and called me a B!!!"

I was so shocked! I still can't believe what happened. DH isn't home so I didn't want to step off my porch or anything and make the situation worse. So I walked back inside and contemplated call the non emergency line, but I felt dumb if I would've wasted their time. When DH gets home, I'm going to tell him what happened and have him look over our camper. Nothing has ever happened before with her so I have no idea where this came from? I mean was I wrong for asking her if she just let her son do that??? It was just getting dark and I was holding DD because I haven't been able to put her down all day because she's cutting 2 teeth, so I just wanted to drop it, that's why I didn't keep feeding the situation.

UPDATE: I told DH about what happened when he got home. We were out looking at the camper with flashlights, (it was 3:00 am) and here comes the neighbors dog. The same one I just dealt with hours ago. This dog got loose 2 times in the last week and came in our yard. The dog went to lunge at me, DH grabbed the dog and held it down so I could get away. The dog scratched my H. I called the neighbor to come get her dog before anything happened and she came over and started yelling at me again. I meant she went completely stupid. I told her she needed to shut her mouth and get away from me and she had 5 seconds before I called the cops and sued her for the medical bills for my Hs cuts from her dog. I don't know why I'm giving her a second chance, I feel crazy. But one more instance I will not let go.

I just wanted her to shut up because she was screaming right under DDs room. I hate to feel like I'd be the tattle tail but this has to stop and I feel like the only way it will is if we get the law involved. DH and I only got 3 hours of sleep with that and DD cutting 2 teeth. She woke up really early. This has to get better and things will change. I regret not calling the law but it won't slide again. I hate neighbors!

  • WTAF. She is crazy and I would be furious.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • Yep, even if you need to call now, have an official report on the craziness.
  • Thing is, I know it could get her in trouble because she works at the FBI. If I call now, they may think I have screws loose since it's after midnight, even though it happened as it was getting dark. Another thing that's been bothering me, is why is her son going for a "walk" with a BB gun?? Makes me feel unsafe.

I'm going to DH look it over closely, and even go back through our security cameras. I know that 2 cameras have good shots on the area. I'm hoping it'll show the whole thing, even when she started walking back towards me,flailing her arms around like a mad woman.
  • I would call the non-emergency line to file a report if there's damage. That's criminal behavior and should be documented. Even if there isn't visible damage, it's probably not a bad idea.
This. Also WTF for you. Because asking if her kid shot your camper = accusing her of wanting it. Crazy
I mean, what was the purpose of her son doing that? I stood there and watched it happen. I thought it'd be better to say what I did instead of  cursing and calling the cops. I figured as a responsible woman she'd at least say "so sorry, it was an accident" or something to cover her butt. But she went stupid instead. She's mad at me because I saw it happen.
  • I would have snapped. You're a better person than I would have been for sure, I'd probably get in her face the min she called me a name...

  • Wow, what a crazy bitch!  At our last house we lived next door to a crazy bitch, but when I went to her door to talk to her about her son paintball painting my mailbox, she did address it with him.  I mean, she slammed the door in my face and didn't say a word to me, but screamed and made him clean it.  That was just our first of many incidents.  I hope this is the end of it for you guys.  Scary/unstable/mean/crazy neighbors can be unnerving.

  • I think I would call...I would be scared he might shoot at something & y'all be outside & hit y'all or shoot at your dog. I realize kids will be kids but that unacceptable

  • If the mom had been apologetic and was scolding her child, I might let it go, but it sounds like she wasn't. How old is the kid?
He's 13. Old enough to know better.
  • That is crazy.  And, yes, I'd file a police report, even if there is no damage.

No weapons were involved, but I was gobsmacked by a mom (I think?  Maybe she was the babysitter…) at the park the other day.  My stroller was parked by the playground, and I was following DS, so was on the other side of the playground, maybe 10 feet away.  I looked up, and a kid was rifling through my stroller.  I went over as he started to hand his sister a little Tinkerbell toy that had been shoved in the inside pocket of DD's stroller seat.  I said, "Hey!  That's my daughter's!" and he sheepishly handed it back.  The mom/babysitter glanced up and didn't say a word.  Who does that??

    What is wrong with people??
Sorry that happened. People are so rude.

You are better than me. I'm no gun expert, so I would have called 911 and told them someone was shooting a gun in front of my house.  End of story.

What does she do for the FBI? I doubt she is an agent, right?
I'm not 100% sure what she does.

Umm, being allowed to shoot things isn't kids being kids. It's a parent not doing their job and teaching their child that guns aren't toys. It would be one thing if she chose to take him out to a range to practice shooting or if they were hunters and in legal hunting ground, but teaching him that shooting other people's property is okay isn't acceptable. That is absolutely something to call the police over. I can't imagine that it's even a question.
This times a million.  I am as pro-firearms as they get and this is not acceptable.  At. All.

I read the update. Dude, where do you live????

No.  A thousand times no. Call.The.Cops.
WV. I promise we all aren't crazy rednecks.
  • Call the cops and file a report- have it on paper so when and if something else happens there is a paper trail of previous issues.

She works for the FBI? She's probably just a civilian worker- no crazy secret status where she could do anything.

  • Thanks ladies. I really do need to call the cops and have it on file. Quick question before I do it. Do I call now or wait until they get home from work? Because the police won't be able to get their statement right now.
  • No... You need to call the cops. No second chances. This woman is creating some very dangerous situations and that needs to be dealt with. What if next time it's your kid that gets hit with a BB or attacked by the dog? Deal with it now before it escalates.

You call now. The cops don't wait around for someone to get off work. It's not your responsibility to report her when it's convienent for her. You do it now and let the cops worry about when she gets home.
Thanks. I feel like you ladies helped me build a backbone ;)
  • Just call and file a report and they will probably send a car out and they will attempt to contact them, when they don't the next shift will.
  • I had to read this twice to make sure I wasn't crazy.  There is no fucking way I wouldn't call the cops.  No way.  This made me angry just reading it!  First, the kid shooting a bb gun toward your property??  No.  NO.  Not only is that damage to your property BUT what ELSE is he going to be shooting at???  Yes, a bb gun is technically a toy, but it is NOT a toy that you point at a person or at property.  There is no excuse.  And the fact that they laughed about it?  WTF???

Second, the dog has gotten loose 3 times lately?  AND it went after you so much so that your H had to restrain it?  No.  What happens if it goes after you or you LO when your H isn't around?  Aggressive dogs have no business being loose; that is the owners responsibility seeing as someone can get hurt or killed.

I can't even believe this.  (Not you, your neighbor), I can't.  I would be in full blown bitch mode if that was me.  It is not YOUR responsibilty to look out for her job or your neighbor relationship.  She has brought on TWO situations that could have put your family in harm's way, so fuck her.  Let us know what happens after you call the cops, ugh!!
