Dumb carseat question

I am embarrassed I am asking this as DD is 4.5mths! When in the car, do you leave the handle up or put it down? I always put it down but was thinking is it supposed to be up to act as a roll bar or something? I read through the manual & it does not say. I have a graco click connect

Re: Dumb carseat question

  • Not a dumb question.  Some car seats specify where the handle must be, some do not.  In a Graco car seat, the handle can be in any position.  This website has more information and a chart for all car seat manufacturers.

Mine is a graco and it specifically says to leave it in the up position. There is a sticker on the side of the seat with those instructions.

Edit: I should clarify. The sticker is actually on the handle and I doubt it makes a difference but I'm in Canada and the car seat was purchased here.

My carseat has a sticker on the side that says the handle can be in any locked position. I usually put it down so I can reach back and reinsert the paci at stoplights. Kiddo is NOT a fan of the carseat :(

  • I don't see a single reference to it in the manual. I also looked all over the car seat itself. The only warning on the handle is about having the seat level

  • I leave it up, and didn't even think about how it SHOULD be! Great question.

  • I'm on kid number 2 and I never knew there was a right or wrong to this, so don't feel like its a silly question. (Luckily te one I have says it doesn't matter, so I guess I haven't done anything wrong)

  • I have a graco snugride 32 and it also says that any locked position is fine. It is a classic connect.

  • Someone posted an excellent link in RTT a few weeks ago.  I have a Graco Snugride, and my local police officer said that the handle had to be down, but the Graco link stated that all positions are actually allowed.  Maybe search RTT for the link?
  • My carseat has 5 (who needs that many?!) handle positions, and the book says all but 2 are safe for driving.  I usually leave it up unless I'm driving alone, then it goes down so I can turn to see him at stop lights.
