Canadian moms -pedi /doc Q

I'm seeing many American moms mention LO's seeing a pedi, but I'm not sure it works that way here. We just see a GP, but I'm wondering if I should be taking R to a pedi instead? So I'm wondering what other Canadian moms are doing! And if you're going to a pedi, did you need a referral?

Re: Canadian moms -pedi /doc Q

  • I go to my regular family doctor. I did see a pedi at first as lo had a heart murmur and he was the pedi that checked her out when she was first born. Once she was cleared he said to just go to my regular doctor.

I believe you do need a referral from your family doctor to see a pedi

  • We see a pedi but it's for severe reflux. Our GP didn't feel confident treating it without the pedi's input do he referred us. But for general appts and needles we still go to the GP. And yes I think you need a referral if you want to see a pedi.

  • We just see our family doctor.
Sometimes I wish we had a pedi....our doctor missed an atypical presentation of thrush, but I don't know if a pediatrician would have thought the same either.
I think you could look up pediatricians and could ask if they're accepting new patients?
