Help! Pregnant and moving to Poughkeepsie area

edited July 2021 in New York Babies
Hi! I am moving from Southern California to the Poughkeepsie area this summer and am due early October. I am looking for any suggestions on hospitals, OBGYNs and pediatricians (I have two other children). I currently see a perinatologist (who is also my OBGYN) because this is a high-risk pregnancy (I have lupus).  I have been doing a lot of research and it seems that Vassar would be the closest hospital, but I'd be willing to go elsewhere if there are hospitals that are highly recommended. If anyone has any experience/suggestions in the area they'd be willing to share, I would be so very appreciative! Thank you!!

Re: Help! Pregnant and moving to Poughkeepsie area

  • Hi there! This board is not too active. I'm in Orange County and I plan on delivering at St. Anthony's Hospital. I know of other women who have and I've heard nothing but good things about it. I know that would be a bit of a hike for you, but I figured I'd throw it out there. I've also heard good things about ORMC in Middletown but don't know anyone personally who delivered there.
  • Thank you so much for leaving a reply! After looking through this board, I noticed it wasn't all that active- Any info is good to have at this point, so thank you!! I just looked it up, and it seems that St. Anthony's would be about an hour and a half from where we're moving. We are closest to Vassar Brothers (only about 7 miles away) but I don't really know anything about it. I would be willing to make a long trek though, if it were needed/worth it! Thanks again for your input, I really appreciate it!!

  • I'm having my baby at Vassar. It's a very good hospital with a level 3 NICU. I also see MFM specialist (who is in the hospital) and I like her a lot! The other options to give birth (depending which direction that 7 miles is from Poughkeepsie) would be Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck (very small hospital) and Putnam Hospital in Carmel. Good luck!
  • Thank you so much! Also, very good to hear about the NICU- my son was born early and was in the NICU for a couple of weeks, so that really puts my mind at ease! Would you mind sharing the name of your specialist (or any other doctors you have- haha!). I feel like I'm going into this very blindly! I have a team of incredible doctors here that I am leaving behind, so I'm trying me best to do my research on new doctors, but it's hard! Thank you for your input- I really appreciate it!
  • I gave birth to my first child at Vassar Brothers last October and had a wonderful experience (I mean as good as childbirth can be!) The L&D nurses were amazing! All of the nurses/staff I dealt with were very professional and helpful. My OB is Dr Murphy with Mid Hudson - but all of the docs at the practice are good. Good Luck!

Hello and welcome to the Hudson Valley!!! I live in Fishkill not to far from Poughkeepsie.  I use Mid Hudson Medical Group.  Love them, they have offices in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill, and Hopewell Junction.  Love my OB, I usually see one but have seen a few since I am 37 weeks pregnant now.

With this practice you would deliver at Vassar Hospital.  We went on a tour last month and it seems like a nice hospital for delivering.  They have a NICU right at the hospital.  I am having a scheduled c section June 18 due to my little one being breech.  When you have  a c section NICU unit staff is automatically at the c section.

I have heard a lot of great things about Vassar so I am not as nervous as I was.
    Good luck!!!

Just google Mid Hudson Medical Group and you can get to the website

  • Welcome to the area! I also used mount kisco medical group. They have a beautiful office right in poughkeepsie. I also highly recommend going to Vassar brothers. I delivered there in September and had a wonderful experience. Every time I thought of my last nurse I would well up with tears because she was soo wonderful. I would definitely look up mkmg though, they have some truly wonderful award winning doctors. Good luck and congratulations!

  • Thank you all SO much!! Your input is incredibly helpful and it's also great to get good feedback on Vasser Brothers! THANK YOU!!!!

  • Im due in December and my doctor recommended Vassar very highly. I have had a few friends who delivered there and I only heard good things. :)
  • Thank you all so much, again for the info! I ended up going with Mount Kisco Medical Group and am very pleased so far (I will deliver at Vassar). I was very impressed at how quickly they got me into my specialist doctors (I am high risk) and really gave great details to all of the issues I have going on!  I am now in search of pediatricians and wondering if those of you that used MKMG use the pediatricians as well?
Thank you so much for all of your input. I really appreciate it!!! :)
