Trying to Get Pregnant

24 days cycles/short luteal phase?

Does anyone else have short cycles (24-ish days) and still ovulate on cd 14? I did not realize that this would be a fertility issue, and now I'm really worried that it wont happen for us :( this is month 6 of TTC our second. Any input?

Re: 24 days cycles/short luteal phase?

  • Usually in the middle (14 for 28 day cycle), so yours should be around 12

  • Sorry didn't read whole post....have you been tracking O at all? The best sign is sticky, stretchy egg white-like mucous.
  • ^^^ this is not true, you do not necessarily ovulate in the middle of your cycle. I usually ovulate on day 20 or 21 and have a 30-31 day cycle.

OP - are you charting/tempting? Even if you DO happen to ovulate on CD 14, a 10 day luteal phase may not be cause for concern at all. I was able to get pregnant with my son on that length of lutealphase.

  • Thank you - I have been using OPKs but not temping (which I will next cycle and from here on out). I know I got a maybe positive on Friday, CD 14, a super positive on Saturday, CD14, and another positive on Sunday CD15. I always have 24 day cycles so I know I'll have about 10 days or less of a luteal phase. I'm nervous that it isn't enough time to implant before my body says screw it and starts shedding.
  • I have 24-26 day cycles and ovulate after day 14.  I was having maximum 10 day LP.  I agree with the PPs and say give temping a chance for a couple cycles.  Once you have that information and are sure what days you ovulate, take it to your OB.  After two miscarriages I have been diagnosed as LPD by my RE.  Getting pregnant is not impossible with a 10 day LP but that will vary from person to person.

  • Cdubs, I'm so sorry to hear that. I will try temping and go from there. Thank you for your input and sharing your story.
  • I've had 24 day cycles on those months I ovulated on day 12 and I have a 12 day lp.

OPKs don't confirm ovulation - they just mean you had an LH surge. A surge does not necessarily = ovulation. If you had a positive on CD15 you could be ovulating anywhere from 12-72 hours later, which means if you are ovulating, it could be as late as CD 18. I would start temping to confirm your ovulation date so you know exactly how long your luteal phase is.

  • I have 25 day cycles (with a odd 23/24/26 thrown in) and usually ovulate between CD 12 & 14 (usually on the latter side). I was always under the impression that there's only a reason to suspect a problem if your LP is consistently under 10 days. Temping is highly recommended!
  • Short luteal phase here as well. After we tried unsuccessfully for a few months with OPKs, I got the Clearblue fertility monitor to track instead, and found out that I usually ovulate on CD21 on a 30-31 day cycle. I've had 3 consecutive LPs of 10 days or less. After the 3rd time, I called my doctor, and I'm going in for a sit down with her next Wednesday. According to her, likely first step is a SA for the husband, before going down the road of testing me for out of whack hormone levels. In the meantime, I've gone to an acupuncturist twice, and he's doing treatments to lengthen my LP. So far he is doing something right -- my LP this cycle is clocking in at 12days so far today, although I started spotting yesterday. I'm taking my PNVS (I've heard the B6 can help but maybe that's bs) and hoping for the best...

  • This cycle I ovulated on CD 12 and I'm spotting (CD 23). I tend to have 12 day LPs. If I were you, I'd temp so you know exactly what's going on with your body.

  • Just a lurker here but I haf 24/25 day cycles and I was temping. I O'don CD 9 and we had sex on CD 6 and 9. And have an 11 week old currently. Everyone is different so temping really helps. Good luck abd hope this helps.
