Infections? (Possible TMI)

Has anyone else been having any problems with yeast and/or bacterial infections? I got a yeast infection that one of the doctors told me to treat with Monistat, but then the bacterial infection stayed behind. Another doctor treated that and banned me from Monistat, but it still stuck around. They treated that a little more aggressively, and it went away but came back as a full blown yeast infection again about 2 weeks later. They're treating it again now but it still seems to be getting worse.

When I bring up the fact that I don't think it's ever actually going away entirely they throw it back on me and say it must be something I'm doing/using that's causing it (soaps, sex, shaving cream, etc.). I've cut out basically everything to eliminate that possibility but it doesn't really make a difference and nothing seems to be working. I'm still communicating with them on it, but considering the issues I've had with dealing with different doctors and lack of communication I was curious as to if anyone else had or is having this problem.

I know it's common to get infections more frequently when pregnant, and I have this way of breeding infections so it's nothing out of the ordinary for me anyway, but is this something I should be a bit more persistent/concerned about with my doctors? The last time I had an infection that wouldn't go away I ended up really sick with BV and on 3 different meds that I'm pretty sure I can't take now while pregnant. I would just like to not get to that point again!!

  • I had continuous infections like you described throughout my second pregnancy. It was awful. I never figured out what it was.

  • This totally sucks!  Best thing I can suggest is switching to a ph neutral body wash (like summer's eve wash) which is formulated for that area and taking a daily probiotic pill.  that'll help keep that area balanced as well and is calorie free (ie, not having to eat a lot of yogurt lol)

    hope you get better soon!

  • I just "recovered" from an infection as well. Thankfully it cleared with the suggestion of my dr to do a 3-day otc treatment and I've been making sure to eat lots of yogurt (make sure it has live cultures and no added sugar). My ob said to limit sugar intake because it increases yeast growth. ALSO, many don't realize but if you've had sex while you had an infection you could have passed it on to your partner and now he's just passing it back to you. You also need to make sure any items you use such as towels etc. are thrown in the wash (i.e. don't reuse them until they're clean) and that you wash your hands thoroughly after administering treatment.
  • I felt like one was coming in and I took a few apple cider vinegar baths and it seemed to do the trick...
  • I had the same problems. I also changed what I washed with. Ended up buying, the new Summer's Eve body wash.
  • Thanks for the remedies guys!! I've already tried adjusting body washes/trying wipes, etc., and it hasn't seemed to help but I'm definitely going to try adjusting my sugar and probiotic intake to see if that helps. You're all awesome as always!!

  • I had a bladder infection that grew to a bacterial infection on the outside ( top of the labia, urinary meatus, and clitoris area) It was awful. My Doctor prescribed an antibiotic called Macrobid and it was gone in about a week,

  • I eat Activia Yogurt every morning and take probiotic acidophilus (2 a day) and it cures up my bouts of BV/infection. And wear strictly cotton undies. Sounds weird but helps.
