8/11-8/17 - Track Club

edited August 2014 in July 2014 Moms
All right ladies, let's get this week going right!
  • How did you do with your goals last week?
  • What changes are you planning to make this week goal wise?

And a silly gif from 'Legally Blonde' just because.

Re: 8/11-8/17 - Track Club

  • Happy Monday!

    Goals last week:

    1. Track food - nope
    2. 8000 steps 3 times - i crushed this one! I made the goal 4 times and even got to 10000 on two of those days!
    3. 2 pound loss - Ugh...despite moving a LOT more and breastfeeding I gained. VERY rude awakening. :(( totally my fault. I ate like crap and justified it every day. It really is terrifying because if I can't lose weight now, I'm not so sure I can do it once I start working and traveling again :( I need to dedicate myself to this and hold myself accountable (Although my scale is pretty much doing that right now).

Goals for this week - reach my goal 5 times (8000 steps) and actually track food every day.

  • Goals for last week:
Reach 10,000 at least one day  - goal achieved!
Eat healthy foods, but allow myself a small treat once a day - sort of achieved this one.  Definitely ate healthier but my treat sometime became a larger than it probably should have.

    Goals for this week:
At least one day at 10,000 and 4 days of 8,000 or over
Work out a better treat system.  I will conquer this sugar addiction!
Spend 30 minutes on the elliptical at least 3 times this week

    Thoughts from last week:
    • I dusted off the elliptical and put it in my bedroom yesterday.  Lord have mercy, I am more out of shape than I thought.  I am going to slowly build up my endurance and hopefully reach my goal this week!
    • I need to watch out for the weekends too because I did a bit of back pedaling after some delicious Chinese food on Saturday and pizza and cake at a birthday party yesterday. I logged all of it so the small gain wasn't completely unexpected, just discouraging.  I'm focused and ready to go now!
    • I need to cut out the artificially sweetened gum (Orbitz you slay me).  I am a chain chewer.  As soon as a piece loses flavor, I'm on to the next piece.  All it does is give me indigestion and crave real sugar.

  • First week joining the group! LO is 4 weeks today, so it is definitely time to start getting back into a healthy routine! I was 168 pre pregnancy, slightly overweight according to my dr so they had me watch very carefully the weight gain. Between that and morning sickness, my final pregnancy weight was 180. I'm down to 150, but still would like to lose 20-25lbs.

Goals for this week: go for at least four 30-45 minute walks. I don't have a step tracker so I can't count those, but also try to stay moving throughout the day. I work from home so sometimes it's easy to sit all day and not realize it.

Keep track of all food, and cut out the junk! I think we've finished the last of all the yummy treats we got after LO was born, so that should make it easier!

  • @bpaws - I'll keep on you girl!  I need more pictures of Wes and I.  I hardly have any with Emme when she was really young, but I do really like the handful that were taken.  I'm always the one taking the pictures and often forget that I need to jump in there too!

Just finished 30 minutes on the elliptical and it kicked my ass.  It went so well that I am planning to let it kick my ass again tomorrow!  I need to figure out the best time to do it though.  I have never been a good workout before breakfast person because I need my food.  (Kind of funny though, because I am definitely a morning person).  After having Emme, I had the best luck mid-morning so I will try that for a week and see where it gets me.

  • @2lacyblue‌ - try checking out your libraries DVD collection for yoga/pilates videos. It would be a fun outing for LO too.

  • Apparently I need to be taking more steps, even on my running days! My water intake was good and food is always a work in progress. So my adjusted goals are
    1. Walk every morning during the week to help get my 10k steps.
    2. Continue C25K 3 days a week.
    3. Continue yoga 2-3x a week.
    4. Eat out only 2x this week!
  • Well, I only lost .4 of a pound last week, but I met my goals! And surpassed them. I wanted to hit 7K at least 4 days. I hit it 5 days, with two 9K and one 10K day. But, on the two days my car was in the shop and I was stuck at home, I sucked.

This week, I want to average 7K + a day for the week. I also want to take 3 dedicated walks (ie drive my butt to a park rather than counting my Target steps).

  • I did it! I made my step AND calorie goal. One down...

Does anyone make protein shakes? If so:

1: what powder do you use and why?
    2. Do you use it to substitute a meal, or as an "extra", smaller meal?
    3. What do you normally put in it?

  • @Matthew930 - great question.  I'd like to know hear what people do about powder too.

Ok, so last week was a bust.  Just like all the weeks before.  But I'm feeling motivated this week, finally.

    Goals -
    1) Get to park Monday, Wednesday and Friday - Monday (3 miles) - check!
    2) 1-gallon of water a day - starting tomorrow, because today was bad!
    3) Get my follow-up glucose test - I've been putting it off :(
    4) No fast food - zeroooo

  • Eating better.  I had fried or broasted chicken 4 days in a row over the weekend... ugh.

Walking more.  I am sore from last night.  After I hang the cloth diapers and baby is fed, I think we will head back out!

I need to get into lifting weights again.  I've been at the same weight since 2 weeks PP and I am 9 1/2 weeks PP now.  Need to get this rear in gear!

  • @Matthew930‌ I use a protein powder from Melaleuca (which is a company that sells natural products - home cleansers, beauty products, vitamins and some food stuff). It comes in a bunch of flavors and is a glucose control protein powder, which is why I started using it while dealing with GD.

I use it as both a meal replacement and a snack. If I am doing a meal replacement, it's almost always breakfast. I blend it with ice and a bunch of spinach and (now that I'm not GD) frozen fruit. The snack is just mixed with water. I add some cheese or something when I do that, as I am a chomper. I will not feel satisfied if I just drink a snack.
  • Thank you everyone for posting. I haven't checked in since the first post, but I was reading this thread earlier today & it motivated me to go out for a 2mile walk today.
My original goals were to walk 2-3 miles 4 days & core exercises 3 days. I have not been successful & have been great at making excuses.
I am going to continue working towards my original goals this week.
  • So I just got back from the gym...I got there so late that they had to kick me out before I was done with my 30 minutes.

I was there late because my husband cannot understand the concept of alternating days at the gym. He went earlier so he could swim, so I had to go after I put the baby to bed.

I didn't want to - i got up at 5 this morning after getting up twice last night because the baby had gas pains and was grunting in her sleep a lot. I took her to her room and put her on my chest so that DH could get one peaceful hour of sleep before he had to get up for work.

I got up at the ass crack of dawn out of courtesy for him, but i had to go to the gym at 9:30 at night. Fucker.

But I thought of @BPaws‌ and her late night runs on two hours of sleep, and i got my jiggly ass to the gym. I even jogged for three of the minutes at the end.

Thanks @BPaws for the kick in the ass. I'm pissed off, but at least I made my steps today.

  • What a day @matthews930. Glad to hear you got your steps in despite the crappiness.

  • I got my steps today!  And met my goal of 3 miles in under 40 minutes.  I got there at 38 minutes and change.  I'm feeling pretty motivated this week.

@matthew930 - awesome work at making the best of a shitty day.

Happy Hump Day Track Club!  Woot!

  • I got cleared to exercise again yesterday!!!!!!!!! So excited.

So we went for a walk yesterday and today! Except it was to Dairy Queen. Both days. SMH.

I decided Im going to run the Goofy Challenge at the Disney Marathon in 2016, so LO is a little older when we go (1/2 marathon Saturday, full on Sunday!) So thats my long term goal. I want to run the Buffalo 1/2 marathon as part of my training, but that is not until May.

So right now goals - walk 1/2 hour preferably with husband to get him moving, every day.

Find fitbit and remove it from packaging.

    Only eat when Im hungry!!!

    Drink more water.

I gotta get some serious pounds off so I can stop taking my blood pressure medicine. I would like to lose 10 lbs before my physical Oct 17th. Long term goal is 55 pounds. Lets gooooo.

I'm sick as a dog. Both boys were up all night. Literally. I slept from 9-11pm and then Henry or Jonathan have been up ever since. They're both sick and I feel bad for them.

Mike asks me at 6 am this morning as I'm covered in milk, sweat and various baby fluids.... "Do you want to take a limo ride downtown and go out for dinner next week for our friends 30th?" I'm feeling gross anyway, but I still don't have clothes that would be fit and be appropriate and I feel so badly about my body right now. I feel so awful because it feels like I'm saying no solely because of how I feel about myself right now, but the thought of going makes me want to cry.

I don't know how you're doing it. I really hope you get some sleep tonight.

  • My battery died Wednesday sometime and I didn't realize it until yesterday morning!  :(( I have no idea when it happened, so no idea what I did for the day!

  • I am going through some serious candy withdrawal over here.  I tried to eat some fruit and it helped a bit, but now I'm pretty much obsessing over no candy in the house and going out of my mind.  I am contemplating a run to Target to get something, but it just isn't practical.
I guess I'll go have another glass of water.

@pup4gdb - I feel your pain on the battery thing.  I plugged my flex in on Tuesday night when the battery was low only to discover that I have only plugged one part of the prong into the extension cord.  I made sure to work extra hard on Wednesday to make up for the missing steps, but it was still just annoying.

@BPaws do you have a recommendation for a treadmill? DH works in the oil fields so he is gone for long stretches of time and I feel confined to the house. I've done some research but not sure what to buy.

Eta: I was a primarily outdoor runner prior so don't know what would work best...
  • @bpaws - you rock. I skipped my run today because I'm still sore from Wednesday's run. You are pushing yourself through some tough times. You need to keep your chin up and brush off those negative body image thoughts. I'm crossing my fingers you start getting more sleep soon!

@amlonica‌ - we sound like twins. I love me some DQ. You are awesome for wanting to do the goofy challenge. My goal is to some day do just the 1/2 marathon in Disney. I was on the BP meds after delivering due to pre-e and once I started running I was able to stop them. Running really is the magic cure to many things.

  • Posting here really helped me not go on a ridiculous candy binge yesterday. That and opening up my food diary on myfitnesspal really put the numbers in perspective for me. I settled for a reduced fat cheese stick and went to make dinner.

I did get some gummy bears from target later on in the evening when I was able to pop out for a bit by myself. And I even ate just a portion size so I'm going to go ahead and count that as a win. I also hit 13K steps for the first time yesterday - woohoo!

  • What is everybody up to this Saturday?

I jumped on the elliptical for a bit and am getting ready to head to a local fair. I can already hear the cotton candy calling my name, but I am determined to have all of the delicious fair food in moderation!

  • @knittylady‌ - great job with not eating all that candy, and getting moving!

As of today, I've hit my step goal for the week, and I've manged to track food every day...Some days were better than others calorie-wise, but i tracked none-the-less.

Today, DH took DS fishing in the morning, so I went for a walk around the neighborhood with LO. Got 2.4 miles in! It's amazing what a little bit of sleep will do. Then we had company for a bit and we're all recovering from that!

  • @BPaws yeah I think I will go with a basic treadmill, I don't need all the extras.
I think I'll try and find a YouTube workout or something today, it's too hot to take DD for a walk.
  • I rejoined WW today and posted on my first day of the Visalus 90 day challenge.  Hopefully I will be cleared for exercise this coming Friday (had unexpected surgery) so I can get this mess in shape.  I am so down today about the way I look.  My stomach is so bad with the stretch marks and now the awful incisional bruising and swelling.  I cried in front of my daughter and it scared her.  Anyway, I am tracking with WW now and hopefully will start losing some weight once I can exercise.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow where I can pretend I ate something today other than copious amounts of shortbread and mcdonalds ice cream ;). Today was a fail, but a delicious one.

Friday and Saturday were calorie busts...ironically, I made my calorie goal today, but i ate Bacon, two hot dogs and a drumstick (the ice cream cone). Nutrition fail!
