Trying to Get Pregnant

6 days late - BFN yesterday. Wtf!?

Hey ladies! I hope you are all having a fabulous day! I posted awhile back (in May/June) about how my fiance and I have been TTC for the past 3 years with no luck. Long story short, I had laparoscopic surgery June 2, 2014 by my RE because he thought I had a blocked tube, but come to find out there was a cyst on my tube and some endometriosis. Everything was removed and I have been back to my normal routine since July. After my last check up with him he said if I am not pregnant within the next 2-3 months, to come back and see him. I tried not to get my hopes up, because of all the bad luck in the past, but then there's always that little glimmer of hope like "What if he really fixed me???"
My June period after surgery began a day early and a bit spotty but then got really heavy, lasted 6 days. My July period was July 9th, on time again. We had sex July 19th, a few days before my predicted ovulation day, which was the 23rd. Also did it again on August 3rd.
Well here I am 6 days late for my period.
It was due August 6th ... I must say have never been this late before EVER. I've been using the P Tracker Lite app on my iphone for the past 4 years and it is usually spot on when predicting my period due date. The most I have ever been late was 2 days.
I've been experiencing some cramping all weekend long, but no sign of AF. Also constipation, headaches, and I am extremely exhausted!
So I called my gyno to set up an appointment for Friday but on my way home from work yesterday I stopped at CVS to get a HPT. I purchased EPT brand... took the test, waited a good 4-5 minutes and a big fat negative! :(
What now ladies? Is it possible that it's too soon? Should I call my RE or just keep the appointment with my gyno??

  • Are you temping or just using an app on your phone?

  • Unless you were tracking your BBT, you don't know if you're late. You could have just ovulated later.
  • Yeah he's fine. I'm the one that's the issue.

I have never tried temping. I'm new to all this stuff. In the past I did try ovulation predictor kits.
Really wasn't trying this time just kind of gave up. When I realized I should have gotten my period on aug 6th, which was my fiancés bday, that's when I looked back at the app I'm using and looked at all the dates.
The appt with my gyno was because I'm late and to do a test but I figured I'll spend $50 on my copay to pee on a stick when I can do that at home for $15.
I just don't understand how I'm THiS friggin late. My period was July 9th.
I'm really just hoping nothing is wrong.
  • i see that it's tuesday.  sigh.
  • NewbieBlog, I really hope your some robot that sends pre-written posts, because if not you are just plain rude. No reading comprehension issue here, your mobile app is not the easiest to use. And I'm not "new" I've posted here previously so maybe YOU have a reading comprehension issue.
  • He didn't tell me I was ovulating, just from looking at the lab results, it said I was in the ovulation phase.
The only reason I brought that up was because it coincided with my phone app. So I was like hmm maybe this thing does predict ovulation.
My hormone levels were fully checked September 2013 by my previous gyno and he said I do ovulate.
  • Janda say what's on your mind?
  • On the lab results, where it shows your result there is a range and if your result is between certain ranges that tells you where you are. Mine was within the ovulation phase. I use Labcorp so maybe other places don't show that on their results.

  • Janda, I appreciate both Joy and Whitney's responses. Honestly didn't know there was a Newbie Blog.
I came here like everyone else just looking for advice, not to be made fun of or ridiculed because I haven't been trying to get pregnant as long as you ladies, or I don't understand certain things. That doesn't make me stupid. I'm not saying my app is the holy grail of ovulation prediction, I'm just stating that is what I use to log my period and intercourse. I understand it's not accurate 100% of the time, just that it went along with some lab results I had previously.
You ladies may be offering me tips and advice, but here's some to you as well, don't chase away people that are sincerely here looking for your help. If you don't have nothing nice to say, then don't post. No reason to be internet bullies, especially with all these raging hormones.
  • Hi @hiuliucci‌ - I'm very sorry for your struggles with infertility and endometriosis. I was diagnosed with both last year as well.

Joy has given you some really great advice and explanations regarding your cycle. I just wanted to add that it is pretty common for people to have some crazy (different than their normal) cycles for several months after a laparoscopy. Even if your cycles were always on time before, it could very well be that you did have delayed ovulation due to your body recovering from surgery.

I hope that things become clear soon. I highly recommend temping and FF to give yourself the best shot before movig to fertility treatments. Good luck!

As an fyi, this doesn't go over well on this message board.

that being said, I agree with pp's, temping and charting and using fertility friend is the only way to know when you truly ovulate. I had a procedure and I ovulated later than normal. Using that app you could be missing your whole fertile window because it assumes a 14 day lp. If you have a longer or shorter lp you could miss ovulation completely.

    My Ovulation Chart
  • Sounds like it's been a rough road for you. There are a couple of possibilities:

    A) You ovulated later or not at all
    B) Your pregnant & don't have enough HCG to turn the pee stick yet
    C) You missed your true fertile window

Right now all you can do is keep testing:
    -- use pink dye
    -- use first morning urine
    -- follow the directions closely
-- do NOT look at the test once 10 minutes is up

    Wishing you luck.

@hiuliucci -- all of the ladies in here are NOT trying to bully you. They are simply trying to educate you and explain to you why AF is "not late". Since joining this community, this is a constant. Read the blog (its in bold and the very top post!), dl FF, temp and read TCOYF.

  • @hiuliucci‌ Welcome and I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles.

The ladies have given you great advice. No one is trying to be mean but you have to understand that we get the "I'm late, test is neg, but I swear I'm pregnant" at least once a day. It gets frustrating and sometimes people can be a little sarcastic when the OP doesn't take sound advice when it is offered.

If you are interested in learning what they don't teach us in health class, or....ever, then read the Newbie Blog, Joy gave you GREAT cliffs notes! Learn how your body really works - download FF. It will help in the future and we all play better together when we all know the rules. Lurk, learn and then come play.

  • Thanks ladies. It's not that I'm not listening and taking the advice you are all giving me. I am. I wasn't arguing just answering the questions you asked me. Also I didn't have the lab work in front of me so I may have been wrong but I remember looking at it and saying ok I must have ovulated on time.
And as far as the bully comment, not pointing fingers or name dropping but a few comments came off as rude and unnecessary.
Whitney, Joy and a few other ladies have given great advice.
Thank you. I will download FF and go buy a bbt and figure out this temping stuff.

These things happen.  I am on CD30 and I *might* ovulate in the next couple of days.  Cycles are regular... till they are not.

Fertility Friend is so confusing! I will have to sit and watch the videos when I get home from work... Quick temping question if anyone is still paying attention to this post... Any thermometer will do or is it a specific one? I saw one in the pregnancy test section @ CVS yesterday, thats why I am asking, but I do have a regular thermometer at home. And it has to be first thing in the morning right?

It really isn't so bad once you get used to it. Normally I just pop my temp into the app in the morning and my CM and whether we had sex in at night, and let FF do the rest. I barely think about it most days. It is really helpful to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility if you have the time so you understand what FF is analyzing and you generally understand your body / cycle better, although you may already have a pretty good grasp given your history.

The thermometers at Walgreens in the pregnancy test section are usually BBT thermometers. Just make sure it has 2 decimals. There are some really expensive thermometers on amazon but I've used my $12 walgreens thermometer for 3 years and I have no complaints.
