WWYD Wake Up Times

I go back to work Thursday, waaaah! I have to leave around 6-6:15.

Before P was born, we always woke E up at 6 to go to DC or for the nanny. During my leave, we just had the nanny show up at 7 and we all slept in a little.

Now that I'm returning to work, should I let E keep sleeping in till 7 and not see her in the mornings? Or should we go back to waking her up at 6 so I can tell her good morning? Is that selfish to make her lose an hour of sleep just so I can see her? I hate the thought of not seeing her all day until I get home at dinner time. Then it's just dinner and bed. WWYD?

Re: WWYD Wake Up Times

  • Are you able to sneak in and give her a kiss goodbye without waking her? That would be my choice if at all possible. I know it's not spending time with her but that's what I used to do with DS and I at least felt like I got to "see" him.

I hope your transition back to work is smooth TJ! My heart aches a little for you....I'll be thinking of you Thursday.

Question is when it comes to the weekends do you want her to sleep till 7 or still wake up at 6? If so I would let her sleep and if anything just sneak in and give her a kiss. I hate getting my boys up early to mess up their routine. Right now while my husband is home I am leaving at 5 am while everyone is asleep still. Stinks but the last thing I want is the kids getting up at 5!

I agree with the sneaking in for a kiss, if you can.  DH has been leaving really early in the am and doesn't get to see DS until he gets home, he hates it but I don't think it's fair to take away that hour of sleep from him.

  • It's definitely up to you. My situation is different, but if I was in your shoes, I would probably let her sleep and try to sneak in a kiss. I know G hates being woken up earlier than usual.

It's tough being a working Mom. Big hugs.

  • I SAH so I see M 24/7, and I can only imagine how hard it is not to see E in the morning.  Hard to say what I'd do if I were in your shoes, but I'd lean towards letting her sleep in until 7.

Have you noticed that if she sleeps until 7, her nap is shorter?  If you think E naps longer on days she wakes up at 6am, then it's probably okay to wake her at 6.

I personally won't try to sneak in for a kiss in the morning, but that's because of M.  He's a very light sleeper by the morning.  Even when we tiptoe down the stairs, we always wake him up (our room is right above his).

  • Ok. I talked it over with mh tonight. It really does make more sense all around to let her sleep. It breaks my heart to go all day without seeing her. But I don't think she would sleep through a kiss. Or even just peeking in. Being a working mom sucks!

  • That would kill me, too, but it might be best to keep her routine as is. I agree with sneaking in a kiss l. Do you have time in your day to have the nanny Skype when she wakes up or send you pictures throughout the day? My mom will be watching J when I go back to work and we have an extra video monitor that I plan on setting up at her house so I can see him on my phone during the day. That probably seems like stalker status but it breaks my heart to leave him for so long.

  • I let my kids sleep.  My mom watches them at our house so they don't need to be up to go anywhere (except during the school year, but the bus doesn't come til 9am).

I do miss them more when I don't see them, but they need their sleep too.

  • I let my kids sleep. I work Mon, Wed, and Fri and I leave the house at 6:00 so I can be at the office at 6:30. The nanny gets to our house at 7:00, and the twins generally wake up around then. V sleeps until 8:00 (or even 9:00 some days - that kid has a hard life!). This works best for us, especially since S and B are having some issues with separation anxiety right now.

  • I don't always see my kids in the morning. DH stays home w them during the day and I leave at 6:45. If they don't wake, I just let them sleep. It was hard at first, but it doesn't bother me now. I know they need to sleep and DH appreciates the quiet morning to get some work done.
