Altitude?

Here's my dillema, hoping you all can help. We were planning a trip to the family cabin about 6,000 ft above sea level. Currently we live at 20 feet above. I asked a few pedis and they said keep eye out for extreme fussiness and leave or seek medical attention right away if LO is not well. This has put a damper on everything. I am not sure I want to risk LOs health. He is almost 3 months. Some of you may remember me mentioning that he has been colicky from day one. And although it seems to be getting better it may be hard to tell of he is having altitude sickness or is just colicky. What would you do? Any one travel like this with LO??

Re: Altitude?

  • If you are concerned about your ability to recognize altitude sickness in him, given those circumstances, how much will you relax and enjoy your trip? I've not been in that situation but that would be my deciding factor.

  • I'm not sure I would go, if I were you. I'd wait and just go next year.

  • I personally would be a little wary of it at this young age, especially if you are concerned about not being able to identify the symptoms. 20 ft to 6,000 ft is quite a difference. I know I get extreme altitude sickness and it is really uncomfortable and pretty miserable for me so I can't imagine what it would feel like to an infant. I don't want to discourage you from taking your vacation but just be watchful. I know you will have LOs safety and best interest in mind!
