I had my first HCG test for this pregnancy today it was 14553. I have no clue what this means and I go back for another on We'd. Help if u know anything about the levels
The number for one HCG test is pretty arbitrary. If you are exactly 5 weeks (meaning you were charting/temping and have a known O date and EDD, not just an estimate based on your LMP) then your number would be a bit higher than average for 5 weeks gestation. As I said before, a high number (or low number) really doesn't mean much. What your Dr will be looking for is the doubling time. In early pregnancy HCG levels that double in 48 hours are generally an indication of a normally developing pregnancy. You'll have your answer as to the "meaning" of your number once your second draw is complete on Wednesday.
Agreed, one number by itself doesn't mean much(other than that it's progressed well till now), it's a matter of whether it's rising by at least 60% each time at minimum. Your number on the next draw will tell you what you need to know, but I suspect it's fine
Due with #5 April 22, 2015. It's a girl!!!!!
Yes it was planned, yes we know what causes that, no we are not on public assistance, and yes we will be getting cable after this.
It seems high. Once the number reaches 2000, ultrasound is a better indicator of growth than hcg doubling time. But that would be around 6 weeks... So maybe your date is off. If you really are 5 weeks, and your numbers increase properly from this, you might be looking at multiples :-) In short, it's a good sign.

Actually you normally reach 2,000 before 5 weeks. Your number looks good OP. You may be a few days farther along than you think, which can make a big difference, but you probably are 5-6 weeks pregnant. As PP mentioned, a second draw will tell you more.
It's *technically* high for five weeks, however (as I recently found in my research when mine was high too) you could be a few days off on your conception/ovulation date. If you're actually closer to six weeks than five weeks, anything up to 50,000 is normal! So a few days can make a huge difference.
