Trouble TTC

Ugh, Annoying Neighbor (child mentioned)

*pregnancy/child mentioned* So I'm really just venting here. My 44 year old neighbor ( she lives above us in a 2 family house) got pregnant unexpectedly at 42 and now has a toddler (almost 2). Every night at around 10:00 we hear him running around for about an hour. I'm home in the summer so I hear him early in the morning (forget sleeping in). Yesterday I watched him throwing rocks in our garden and on our driveway (we have separate driveways), also he loves to run around my new car and just yank on the door handles. She just stood there and let him do it, not knowing I was watching. If it's not bad enough that I have to see and hear this kid all day and night (we've been woken up at 3am to his running around) when I'm having TTTC now he's in my driveway. I don't think I'd be so crabby as normally I don't mind kids but right now I'm in no mood to see her miracle toddler. It doesn't help that she is NOT friendly at all, we've been neighbors for almost 3 years and she can barely mutter a hello when she see's me. Well now that I vented, I'm not sure if it's time I say something? I don't want bad blood with my neighbors but who lets their kid run around late at night EVERY night, knowing people live below you. Do I say something or deal with it?

Re: Ugh, Annoying Neighbor (child mentioned)

  • I'm so sorry you're dealing with that! That is annoying, especially with TTTC.

I'm not sure how I would go about it but I would be afraid if the child is touching/ grabbing your car, and throwing rocks, what if they hit your car!? That would be infuriating to me! If the mom is standing there and doesn't care I would not be happy. I know that specific event hasn't happened yet, but it could!

Maybe try to watch and next time they are near the car I would go out and say something (while he is doing it). I think if you focus on the car it would maybe go over better in that you don't want him damaging your property.

  • I agree with above too. Even if you weren't stressed about IF, this behavior isn't acceptable.
TTC since 2013 (grad of 3T)
    EDD: May 24, 2015
  • I think I'm more annoyed that I watched her watch him do it and she didn't care. Dealing with IF I think makes it more annoying. I'm going to wait and see if he does it again (rock throwing) and very nicely say something. He woke me up this morning and I was in no mood!

  • I'm sorry, that sucks. I don't think you can say anything about what time she allows her child to be out of bed, but I think you certainly have a right to insist that she teach her child not to touch your car or throw rocks on your property, and maybe even remind her that she is responsible for any damage her child does. It sounds like she is a very permissive mother and I wouldn't want to appease her too much early on. But she also seems like she could be rude or vindictive. So maybe something simple like, "The next time your child throws rocks on our property or touches my car, do you want me to reprimand him or will you?"

  • Lol, I do have a panic button, great idea!!! She's always been inconsiderate, I think right now my tolerance is very low. @iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌ it's so funny, on Sat. night my H and I were relaxing after dinner and I turned up the music, we have a nice sound system, my H said to turn it down they have a baby upstairs, it was only 9:00, I said do you think she cares when her kid is using my car as a jungle gym? No, and I turned it up! I don't want to start a war with her, but if she doesn't start disciplining her child I may have to do it for her. Weird thing is her husband is a super nice guy!

  • Maybe I'm a grump and terrible neighbor, but when we lived in apartments...I wouldn't hold back. Lol. There are residency rules at every place I've ever lived (I'm sure it's the norm, check your lease to be sure) about noise. I would be just as angry at rowdy 21 year olds drinking and being rowdy as I would a toddler. It's not acceptable and it is the parents job to teach their children respect for others; living in an apartment means respecting your neighbors by not running around at 3 AM.

I would just be honest and the next time he wakes you up at 3 AM bring it up to her the next day. If he touches your car, go out there and ask her to please remove her child from your personal property. She will get the picture. Doesn't sound like she wants to be besties. And I wouldn't want to be besties with someone who can't control their kid anyways. I'd be too annoyed with them all the time.

but I'm a freakin grump tonight and on my 4th glass of wine...sooooo.... :-). Good luck!!

  • I would have gone over to him, as if I didn't see the mother, and say "watch out, bud. that's not a toy" and then look over at the mom and say "I didn't see you there. I wouldn't want him to get hurt". And in my head, I would say "take that, bitch!" LOL

  • Love the panic button idea. Man, I'd have fun with that!!! Bahahaha!!!

You could also wrap up the collection of rocks and put it in their mailbox with a note that you found them in your area and they belong to their son...

(I'm a sarcastic dreamer like that, but if it came down to it, probably wouldn't have the guts. It's sooo funny to think about, though!)
