I just had someone POUND on my door. I didn't answer right away and they started ringing the doorbell. I didn't answer. Not really out of fear but because I'm rocking some compression socks with capris and a too-short Maternity shirt with my belly hanging out.
I usually answer, but if I'm home alone I may not.
I feel like lately we've gotten troves of Jehovah's witnesses. We never, ever answer the door. I appreciate their effort, but ehhh I just don't feel like it.
I hide upstairs and let the dogs bark and attack the front window. We don't have family or friends that would randomly stop by, so if it is unexpected it is probably a solicitor.

Depends on if I know them or not and if DD and I are home alone. Our family and friends normally call first so it is rare that we get someone unexpected that I will actually answer the door for. I think unexpected company is rude.
I have general social anxiety disorder, so most of the time I'm too freaked out to answer the door even if it's obvious why the person is there. We also don't generally lock our doors, so friends and family know to just knock and call out as they walk in to let us know that they're there. I'm also very rarely ever home alone (my mother lives with my husband and I and she rarely goes out without me).
I never answer the door. In fact I avoid it like the plague! If my DH is home I give him the option. I've watched too many movies and have too vivid an imagination!
I live out in the country. Closest neighbor is 1/2 a mile away. We have a gate on our driveway which is closed most of the time.
If someone knocks on our door, I don't really have a choice not to answer as we don't have curtains and have huge picture windows on the front of the house. That being said, we have never had solicitors or someone we don't know show up. Most family and friends know the gate code and let themselves into the gate, most other people can't get up to the house :-)
Unless it's fed ex/ups or mailman.... or of course someone I recognize.. Then no. Never. I hate hearing sales pitchs or dealing with the awkwardness of having to tell a random stranger no thank you a million times.
There is a JW worship center (not sure of the proper term? church? Temple?) about .25 mile from our house so they are CONSTANTLY coming around and leaving flyers and shit on our door. I have told them time and time again that we are Catholic, have found Jesus, etc. and still, they come around. Once I was listening to their ramblings and my husband came over and said "I'm sorry. My wife is far too polite to tell you to get lost, but we aren't interested." and shut the door. I felt kind of bad, but they STILL come around.
I voted SS because living in an apt building in NYC, no one ever knocks on your door. They ring the bell and they have to ring it again to get inside the second door. So i will use the intercom to see who it is before having to deal with anyone right at my door.
I will sometimes open the door. Since we live at the end of a cul de sac we don't get a lot of vistors (besides the annoying religious people, salesman, or policatal people) It just seems like you have to be careful now a days with all these crazies out
I voted it depends! I usually peek out the window to see who it is. I will usually open for anyone except for my neighbor. She is SO annoying. She seriously stops by at least 3 times a week to tell me that I NEED to host a party for the "Ladies of the Republican Party", it's my turn, etc.. #1. She is the president of this "club" and the president of our home owners association. #2. I'm not a member of this club. #3. I've NEVER been to one of the parties or shown any interest. She taped an invitation to my door last week for me to approve. It was an invitation for a party hosted at my house next month. I've had numerous conversations with her where I told her I was NOT interested and she keeps on. WTF.
I voted it depends. It depends on if I am decent and normally have my gun in my hand behind the door or on the back of my pants. I keep the glass door locked. I had one man try to open it I pointed my gun at him and said to stop. poor older man was a financial services agent for the elderly and mistook my house for my neighbors. he showed me his card and id then told him the right house. I am home alone often due to opposite schedules.
People don't accidentally end up at our house. It's at the edge of a very small village and we have a 200' drive, so if someone goes to all the effort to drive up and come to the house they typically have a purpose. Sometimes it's the roaming evangelists, but usually it's a delivery of some kind or a neighbour. Friends don't typically stop by without calling, just because it's too out of the way to risk if we'll be home or not. I usually just look out the front window to see if I recognize the car. It happens so infrequently that I'm generally curious to see who's here
It depends. I really don't like to have any expected company, just how I am. If I haven't been out of the house all day odds are I'm still in my pjs and have no bra on so if I do open the door they may don't like what they see! Lol.

Wow! Where do you live? I just can't imagine living somewhere I felt that unsafe. Granted, when my husband is away, I have been known to accidentally leave the keys in out front door or forget to close the front door on warm nights.

Holyshitballs! That is unreal. I'd be putting up a giant "VOTE HILARY 2016" billboard for my yard to see if that stops her.
