Opinion on Swings

I know that it depends on the kid, but if you have a swing, does your LO like it? And is it primarily for lulling to sleep or for other purposes? DS is suddenly fussy to nap but falls asleep in the car every time, so I'm betting this might knock him out.

Re: Opinion on Swings

  • She likes it when she's sleepy. I use it on occasion for naps.

  • My LO has loved his swing since he came home, he will nap in it some but he also will hang out in it and watch the mobile. It is my go to for when I need to put him down for a few.He does also ap on car rides.
  • My LO has napped in her swing only a handful of times and that was when she was 7 to 8 wks. Now, we sort of use it as another place to put her or something else to amuse her. She tolerates it for maybe 10 mins at a time.
  • Depends on the day. His love for the swing is hit or miss.... But considering I got one for $15 at a second hand store, that's fine by me! I say buy used and if it's a big hit you can upgrade to a fancy one with all the bells and whistles.

  • We have a very basic swing that I bought used from a friend, and DS2 seems to like it, we mostly use it for naps. DS1 wanted nothing to do with a swing so I didn't want to buy a fancy one or brand new.

  • I just can't quite pull the trigger on the mamaroo b/c of cost but think it looks awesome! I want to sit in it all day. Buying used is a great idea- thanks ladies.

  • Ours is a hand me down. It took a bit for DD to get used to it, but now I don't know what I'd do without it. She will take naps in it sometimes and just happily swing sometimes. It allows DH and I to have a meal together. I've heard some LOs love and some don't care for it, but for us it's awesome.
  • DS love his swing. He naps in it at times, trying to rely on it less. He also likes to hang out in it and watch the mobile!

  • DS loves his swing a little too much. It's the only place he reliably sleeps for more than an hour.

  • ds finds it to be a new seat to see things. I tired two I got passed onto me and one at a friends. good thing I have no investment in one.
  • Mine has only ever tolerated it for maybe 10-15 minutes at a time

  • DS is pretty good in the swing when he's very sleepy and he'll nap in it for hours. But if he's not napping in it, he usually wants nothing to do with it.

  • DS loves the swing! We put him down drowsy or asleep and he can stay there for hours! You could check out Craigslist? Our has a fully washable soft fuzzy fabric portion.

  • My brother and I have daughters a month apart. My 2 Month old loved hers until she hit the 2 month mark. Suddenly she hates it. Before she could sleep all day in it if I let her. Brother's DD never liked hers. We both have the Snug a Bunny. Glad I borrowed it from a friend. It's expensive to only get 2 months out of it. Brother bought his used.

I just bought used $150 like new and with infant insert. I had a tough time with the price also and not knowing is LO would even like it.

Then our cheap(er) fisher price broke after about 20 batteries and minimal use--- I figured it was worth it.

  • We have the fisher price snuggamonkey. It's a life saver! DH picked it because it rocks in different directions and plugs in so no worries about running out of batteries during 3am screamfest. He naps in it almost daily, will just hang out and watch the mobile and occasionally sleeps there out of said 3 am desperation.

This! It's the only place he naps during the day. I'm starting to get nervous about it! It's our go-to place. DS1 loved the swing, too.

We had a basic Graco forward-and-back swing (https://www.gracobaby.com/products/pages/swing-by-me-portable-swing-meadow-menagerie.aspx) for DS. He liked it okay but we only used it for 2 or 3 months, less than 30 minutes at a time.

For DD we have a Mamaroo. At first she hated it but now she's mostly indifferent. She'll sit in it for 15 or 20 minutes before she gets bored and wants to move on to the next activity.

Both were gifts. I'm glad we didn't spend money on them. I don't know many babies who use a swing much past 3 or 4 months anyway.

This is our issue. We're trying to transition him to his crib, at least more often. DC is helping because they don't have a swing. We sometimes get a good nap in the crib or bouncy chair but it's rare.

Ours has been successful on a few occasions, but DS is a really bad self soother. He likes to be held.

But... we got ours cheap at a consignment store (I'm beginning to think I'm the board cheap-o...), so it was still definitely worth what we paid for it even if it's not a huge hit.
