I just saw this headlined on HuffingtonPost. Wow. It's just so surreal to think about. I try not to get too wrapped up in celebrities dying because, after all, they are just like regular people who die every day.
What got me with this was the fact it was a suicide and Williams was always so hilarious and did such a great job at making people laugh. It's just so opposite of how I thought it would end for someone like that. Just goes to show you truly have no idea what someone is struggling with, no matter how they appear to the world.

I just saw this online. What a loss. It just shows how significant mental health is. We do a disservice to our community with the way we shame those who suffer.
Wow, that's so shocking. I agree with @absolutelymaybe, I normally don't feel any different when a celebrity dies, but I feel like I grew up with Robin Williams. Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting....wow he was so incredible.
Agree. Robin Williams and Jim Carey are my two favorites. I have read that Jim Carey suffers from severe depression as well. Interesting that those who can make others laugh suffer from this.
@absolutelymaybe I remember seeing an interview with him where he said his public person was basically a cover because he large stretches of extreme depression.
Ironically, many over the top comedians say the same: the laughter is a coping mechanism.
So sad. It's unfortunate how many comedians suffer from mental health issues like bipolar disorder, depression, alcoholism, etc. They use comedy to mask their problems, and so often it ends up like this Never a huge fan of his standup (NMS), but I loved and grew up with his movies...no doubt he was an extremely talented actor/improviser/performer and will be severely missed

With all his comedies (because Mrs. Doubtfire was perfection) my real favourite was his work in 'Dead Poets Society.' It's the reason I wanted up be a teacher.
He was such an accomplished actor outside of his comedy.

some of my favorites with him was Good Will Hunting and Patch Adams
Oh yes! He was, of course, incredible in Good Will Hunting, but Patch Adams was so underrated. Brilliant.
I am so sad about this. He was such an amazing actor and did so many great movies. I want to have a robin Williams movie night now! Hook, Mrs Doubtfire, Flubber, Jack, Jumanji, etc.
I just watched Jack last weekend... that and Patch Adams were so wonderful and touching, and i agree what Dead Poets was a terribly sweet film. Agree what other posters say, it is terrible his depression got the best of him, and as someone with severe depression myself, I hope this brings some much needed attention to the subject, and help to those who need it. RIP good man.
His death is a tragic reminder that depression is real and it does not discriminate. Substance abuse and mental health disorders are my passion in life and it burns my biscuits when people say that addiction or mental health isn't "real." You need proof? Well, there it is. So sad

Yeah it's one of my all time favorite movies!!!!
Honestly, my favorite movies with Robin Williams were his darker ones like Insomnia and One Hour Photo.
But I will forever remember him as the voice of Genie in Aladdin.

As much as I loved _Dead Poets_ and _Good Will Hunting_ et al, my favourite was a movie called _Dead Again_. Did anyone else like that one?
