Pregnant after a Loss

Constipation = the worst.

Give me your best tips for dealing with constipation during first tri, because I'm dying here!! I'm definitely not eating enough leafy greens, I know, but they make me want to barf right now so they're not really on the menu. What should I try? Prunes? I've never had this issue before!!

In other news, am I only one who feels like they're not allowed to complain about normal pregnancy problems to some ppl because "I should just be happy I'm pregnant?" I AM obviously, but some parts of it still suck!! /side rant

Re: Constipation = the worst.

  • I was just telling my husband over the weekend that my constpation was so bad I felt severely violated!  I've been trying to drink more and more water, but at times that's just not practical.  I too am missing out on a lot of my fiberous veggies.  I'm very close to going out and getting Miralax to help move things along.

    Good luck, I hope it gets better for you!

  • More fiber, lots of water, walking...

  • Miralax was a life saver for me. Colace once a day and lots and lots and lots of water. Like so much water you think you may float and then have one more glass. If leafy greens are hard to keep down now try fiber one bars or something similar.

    I like prunes and prune juice, so this option works for me & has been successful. I also made sure to drink plenty of water.

    My OB suggested miralax if I needed it.

    As for your second thing - about the complaining. You can complain about whatever you want, nobody is stopping you. I will say as a multi loss lady, you won't catch me complaining about anything pregnancy related. There's nothing more in the world I have wanted and I've even prayed and begged for more/stronger symptoms during this pregnancy. This may be my inner bitch coming out but I give super eyerolls to people about this who have had a successful pregnancy--especially on an AL board. I know each pregnancy is different, but you knew what you were signing up for. JMO.

    This time I'm not leaving without you.
  • I eat a high fiber granola bar just about every day and try to eat yogurt most days. If I get to the end of the 2nd day without going I start taking 1 colace every 12 hours til I go, but with the fiber bars, yogurt, and fruits/veggies, I don't need the colace too often. That combo seems to work pretty well!

  • In addition to increased fiber, veggies, water (watermelon is great too) look into a squatty potty - I don't 'go' without using it - even just to pee. I used to strain a lot & it has really helped make elimination so much easier - especially when constipated. Go to www.squattypotty.com & watch the video. They are not expensive but you may be able to get them for less on amazon. If only they had a travel version - I really suffer when I travel!
  • To get the water you need I suggest what I only learned a few weeks ago - use a straw.  That may make all the difference in this nauseous phase, especially if you're having a hard time with the taste of water.

    1T is all about survival so take as many tips as you can.

    I second either the Colace or Miralax if it's that bad.  You don't want to end up with a BO.

  • My pnv this time (citranatal harmony they are purple) has 50 of colace so that has really helped. I also do a 1/2 cap of miralax in my am cup of decaf every 3-4 days to keep it going while on progesterone.
