Trouble TTC

I need a new doc

COME ON SEPTEMBER! !

I have an appointment with a new OBGYN then

As mentioned before I've been on metformin for 2 months. My prescription ran out and instead of getting a refill I decided to wait and talk to my doc. It's been 4 days and I feel human again! I'm not so tired and I'm not craving food 24/7.

So told I called and talked to the nurse. I have no appointment for follow up. Nothing no monitoring. Anyway nurse was going to ask the doc if I was refill or if there was something better for me.

That was 5 hours ago :( ugh

Re: I need a new doc

  • I know I'm going to sound like a broken record from your post before, but I would recommend seeing a RE. Personally, I wouldn't want to take medicine that I didn't know was going to be helpful to me.

  • Does this OB work directly with an RE on fertility cases? If not, I would not even waste my time! I would see if I could get a Sept appointment with an RE to look forward to instead. Metformin has big effects on the body, and I'd want a specialist in endocrinology to balance out all the hormones.

  • Lindy: I am not sure but it totally felt like it was for me anyway.

I tried to research REs in my area...none...I'm pretty rural and it looks like the closest one is 3 hours. I am assuming that's why my doctor hasn't passed me off to anyone yet

I have great insurance so I know that isn't the reason

That is pretty far; I guess in my opinion it's not up to your doctor to decide if he/she thinks you should see a specialist it should be up to you. I just would recommend it even just to get a diagnosis so you know if the metformin is even doing anything for you.

I understand that's a long drive, but maybe they could work with your OB and you could get testing figured out through the RE but have the blood draws done at a local place then your RE could get the results?

  • I am assuming that's what most people here do. I hope the nurse calls back before 5 pms here and I can ask for the referral
  • I do the remote doc thing. My RE is 3-3.5 hours away. I have all the monitoring done at a local clinic with a STAT order to make sure the RE receives the results the same day. I think a lot of REs are accustomed to doing that since it is such a specific subfield. The downside is that my IUIs and my two office visits were whole-day affairs... that get me out of my crappy little town! Woohoo! :-P
