VBAC anyone?

For this whole pregnancy I was hoping to have a successful VBAC. Now that it's getting closer to my EDD I'm considering having a scheduled c section.  I keep going back and forth and I can't make up my mind.  I know some people recovery quickly after a c section but I was not one of them, my recovery was awful.  I'm nervous about not being able to pick up DS1 for so long.  I know there's lifting restrictions after a vaginal birth but not as long as the restrictions for a c section.  I'm kind of hoping one of you will make up my mind for me.  Is anyone else planning a VBAC?

Re: VBAC anyone?

  • Yes, I am trying for a VBAC and have found great support in the ICAN groups on facebook and on the national website. C-Sections are major surgery with major risks. If you can try for vaginal, I would--but that's just me. I am prepared to have a RCS if needed, but am going to try if I can to put it out the vaginal way!

  • I am hoping to VBAC, again this time.

I had an semi-unscheduled c/s for breech times the first time followed by a successful VBAC.  The recovery was MUCH better!!!  I was able to jump right into life with 3u2 (as much as one can jump into that, ha).

The tearing from my VBAC was minimal, the peeing thing has only recently been an issue as I am 36 weeks and have a horrible cold.  I consdier that pretty good, and the pooping thing can be solved by eating stuff that makes you go ;-).

Bascially, I am all for avoiding surgery.  It was so nice to be able to snuggle right after delivery and have the kids come visit right away.

I am hoping to do the same this time around.  Fingers crossed!!

This exactly. But really it is such a personal decision and I think as long as the result is a healthy baby and momma that is all that matters.
  • I'm the opposite. I had a c-section and didn't even consider a VBAC. For what it's worth I've had 2 doctors tell me that the recovery is better the second time around. Mine was easy to begin with so I think that helped my decision. For me personally, I like knowing exactly what will happen. That and I have a real fear of anything medically related so the fact that I've ready done it makes me much more comfortable. There are risks to both c-sections and VBACs so I'm going with what makes me feel best. In the end it's a personal decision. Like PP said, no matter how you do it, all that matters is getting baby here. There's no right or wrong way.

  • I have had an emergency cesarean, an elective repeat cesarean and will be having a VBAC with this baby. There have been a few recent posts about VBAC's. I have done tons of reading and research so I am prepared. I agree that it is a personal decision however statistics show VBAC's are safer with subsequent deliveries than repeat cesarean. My recovery was easier with my repeat vs my emergency cesarean but I really don't want to be cut again.

  • I'm trying for a vbac. I'm ok with ending up with the c section but I want to give a vaginal birth a try first. I'm all about getting the baby out safe. I had a horrible recovery with my section the first time that I'd be scared for the next one. I also have two toddlers to take care of after so I need to be able to pick them up. At least I know that at the new hospital I'm delivering at the baby comes right back to you after they get checked out which is great. I've thought about how easy it would be to schedule a rcs since I know what to expect but I want to experience labour too. It's a personal decision and only you can make it. For me I want to avoid major surgery.

  • I'm also in the undecided vbac club. My last talk with doctor was that since this baby is large and big brother was large that if I went into labor on my own I could try vaginally and after my due date we would schedule a csection. I really don't want to have another long labor 30 hours and baby be stuck again. Plus I know a scheduled c is safer than an emergency c section
  • Good luck to all of us trying for VBACs!!

  • Don't let the peeing yourself have too much influence in your decision. My cousin had 2 sections and still has this issue, same here and this is my 4th vaginal birth. It's not a for sure thing based on you delivery.
  • I am going to have second VBAC with this one. I found wonderful doctor who is very supportive. She said that because it will be my second VBAC there are almost no risk comparing to a regular birth (and the risks are lower than RCS which is a major surgery).
My recovery from CS was terrible and recovery from VBAC was so much better and quicker! I totally recommend at least trying for VBAC.
  • I am allowed to try VBAC as long as I go in to labor on my own by 40w5d. Good Luck fellow VBACers!

  • I tried for a vbac with DD2, but ended up in the same predicament as I did with DD1. My body only dilates to 7 every time. My babies are always in OP (occiput posterior) position, and get stuck in the birth canal, their stats drop, my firstborn had her cord tightly wrapped around her neck, and I get taken into a csection. This time for my 3rd I'm going straight to a RCS. My practice won't let me try for a vbac after 2 sections. But honestly I'm ok with it. I've had 2 now so I know what to expect, and my recoveries have not been bad at all. Good luck with whatever you decide. I sincerely hope you have better luck with vbac than I did!
  • Idk, but I wanted to wish you good luck and I hope you have the birth experience you want.
