Transverse

You might remember that I was almost unable to feel LO at all not too long ago, well as of the past week I've been feeling him non-stop (yay!) with jabs to my sciatic nerve and cervix (boo!).

We had a prenatal appointment this morning and when I brought this up with my doctor she did an ultrasound and discovered that our baby boy is now transverse (sideways).

Anyone else have a directionally challenged LO? Any ideas of how to coax him into a downward position?

Re: Transverse

  • He may move with time. And you can try some yoga, too. Glad he's doing okay!

  • My little guy has been sideways the past 2 appointments. They've got time to figure it out.

  • DD was transverse until close to 34 or 35 weeks (can't remember).  She flipped all on her own by 36 weeks though.

  • My first was transverse. Ended up having a successful external version at 38 weeks and he was born the next week. Prior to the version, I tried it all; handstands in the pool, lying upside down on an ironing board propped against the couch, playing music at my crotch to try to entice him to head that way, flashlight down low, putting bag of cold veggies either up or low (can't remember). These were all things I looked at on the internet that worked for some people.
Good luck and hopefully your LO will head down for you!
  • It's very possible that baby will move on his own. I swear my baby just takes advantage of as much space as he can, and is constantly moving in different places.

  • Mine moves constantly - he alternates between breech and head down from one ultrasound to the next.  Saturday night ultrasound showed him head down, but now I feel him kicking a ton right under my ribs, so I know he is once again breeched because that's the only way his kicks avoid the placenta.  I'm relishing the fact that right now he is breech, because I know soon he will flip back and I'll go back to feeling him a handful of times per day.

Second the recommendation of spinning babies if you are concerned and want to begin nudging him down.

  • My baby was transverse at 26 weeks. I used spinning babies as a resource. They have different positions you can do. Sure enough, by 29 weeks he had flipped head down! Good luck. I'm sure it will be fine.
  • This is what I'm thinking has caused the change in movements. Today they told me he'd been breech until now, and it seems he's either some version of head down or transverse. Cat/cow was recommended by my prenatal yoga instructor to get baby into position.

  • Both of my LOs are transverse & have been throughout my entire pregnancy! Baby A is currently breech, butt down! I'm getting concerned given the fact that there are two in there but hopefully they will figure it out! I also have about 7-8 weeks to go! So there's time for them to get into place!

  • i was told there's still time for baby to move around until about 37 weeks - then there's no more room in the house to move..

my bump moves all over the place... but i hope he gets head down in time :)
