Switching Pedis

My DD is only 2 1/2 weeks old so she has only seen her current pediatrician at the hospital and then for her check up a few days later. The doctor is a nice woman but she has a very thick and hard to understand accent which makes communication a little difficult. I also felt like she really didn't take a lot of time with us when we brought the baby for her check up, and when I called with a question last week the phone just rang and rang. It also bugged me that they don't have a credit card machine in the office (very old fashioned doctor) and I had to pay my co pay with cash.

DH and I were walking around the block today with DD in the stroller and we passed by a pediatrician's office that is only a few blocks away. He is associated with the same hospitals as the other doctor and seems much more modern (he has his own website and Facebook page) and he also takes our insurance.

So should I give our current pedi a little more time to grow on us? Or should I meet with this other doctor and see if we like him better? For those of you who have switched doctors before, why did you make the switch and how did you go about doing it? I don't want to insult her current doctor at all because she is a very nice woman.

You have to do what you feel is best for you and your lo. If your not happy going there then I would switch. To switch all you have to do is sign a records release form and they will send your lo's records to the new pedi.

To make the switch, if you decide to go ahead with it, the new guy will have you complete a consent form so that he can request your records from your current pediatrician. It is that easy.

  • we switched pedis when dd was 6 months old.  We hated having to wait hours in the waiting room for a well visit and also found a pedi a little of an alarmist.  We just switched and requested our records.  He was a good doctor, but we needed someone who was a better fit for us. 2 1/2 years later it was the best decision we made.

  • We did w/ ds1. the first was a piece of work. I went to the practice down the street. I found talking to others in town helped with finding competent doctors. Is there someone who can recommend another pedi that you know?

  • @TurtleMonsters‌ actually someone I know had recommended the current pedi to us. I looked up the new doctor online though and he has a ton if really great reviews, so hopefully he will be a good fit!

  • Do what you think is best for you and your LO. If you are uncomfortable with her, then switch.
When I was having to take DS all the time, and I was trying to BF him, I had asked the pedi what he thought was the best things/advice to help me get my supply back up and he handed me a can of formula. At the end of that appt I was crying and asked to never see that pedi again. I'm still going to the same practice but I am using a different pedi.
