Bfest

Anyone?  Bueller? Give me something to read on this slow Monday morn!

Per usual, I can't think of anything that is really bitch worthy.  I'm at work, it stresses me out, so does my mother, and I just want to be a sahm so I can be with my babe all the time.

  • I have one... that makes me frustrated. I need your gals opinion on it as well. I maybe overreacting. My niece is 2 years and 4 months. She only speak 2 words and the words she speaks are... mama and ball (with a very high pitch noise). With my son, he was speaking at 1 and half and pointing out sheep, tractor and all different things. His vocabulary was very high when he turned 2. So, I have been very concerned about my niece. My brother and I are close, but I wouldn't consider us very close. Well we (my parents and I) have brought it up to my brother about our concerns about her speaking. The Pedi wanted her to speak 50 works at her 2 year appointment. Which they told us she can speak 5 now... which I haven't heard the others. She grunts and moans for things. She communicates and lets you know what she wants but doesn't use her words... Ok, enough back story... this is what really pisses me off. The pedi gave my brother and SIL information on early intervention though the state, no cost to them. I asked him if he is going to call and he said no. They are not going to do it. They said "She will speak when she wants too". He did have me come over with DS so she can get some children interactions. He is a SAHD. However, my son gets frustrated at her since she doesn't speak back to her... so they don't get alone very well. Anyway... If it was my child I would be getting early intervention no matter if someone else told me it didn't work for their family (his excuse)... The autistic post had me thinking about this...

  • I don't feel well at all. All I want to do is cuddle and sleep with my baby!
  • these next few months are going to be incredibly hectic. I had a small breakdown about it last night. As usual set off by my IL.

We are in the middle of DH changing jobs and moving. So we have to travel to go find a house etc. Also trying to get LO baptized before the move, going up to see DH's family and going to London for a work trip. My SIL is having my nephew Mid October, and worse yet, my nanny goes back to school early sept. All of this happens before November. All we get from IL are negative comments about us taking LO to london, and baptizing LO and basically every other parenting decision we make. I am so stabby about it! I am already on edge about getting everything done and moving and international travel with a 5 month old... I really don't need family scaring me about pointless shit.

  • My bf... Nap time again. Things were better on the weekend. We were busy a LO slept well. We were on a good roll this morning until the second nap when the garbage /recycling truck decided to come by, the construction site across the street decided to load and unload heavy thumping things, the landscapers at the building beside us started mowing and they're banging away in the apartment beside us. So 20 minutes nap and an hour and a half later I have an overtired baby and now exhausted. Time for the walk and see if she'll sleep. It's no ones fault about the noise but we were doing so well it's just frustrating.
  • I'm a child who didn't "talk" until 3 and that was with therapy. I still have major issues with speech today and it even affectsy spelling as I say things incorrectly. It is highly embarrassing and I often feel stupid . So push for early intervention as a speech problem is horrible to have to still deal with as an adult.
  • LOs sick and our cables out !

  • This is kind of long:

Had to go in today for a department meeting. Found out the district hired TWO new content specialist last week. I applied for this job earlier in the summer. I understand they had to fill it quickly, but at least give me a chance to interview! I think they ended up hiring people from outside the district, so they wouldn't have to fill more jobs. I have worked very closly with the social studies director for 5 years, so I was at bit annoyed at the protocol.

Secondly, per my contract I have to work this week... With no A/C... In August... In Texas. I went today for a few hours, and was dying.

  • Oh I have another one. I have an ingrown toenail. Booo...
  • MH was supposed to be home (after working out of town 6 days) tomorrow. Now it is looking like Thursday IF all goes well. Not holding my breath.
  • This maybe a little long. I did post this on FB but since it's been my bitch for  couple of days I'll continue...

Beginning of last week my principal made me grade chair. Grade chair is responsible for making sure everything is running smoothly within the grade level, set up field trips/activities, attend one meeting a month, email minutes of grade level meetings to admin and help out the teachers in the team. I was happy about it (extra $500 for the year) and considered it a compliment.

So this year my school decided they were going to have 2 weeks of UNPAID orientation. It is not in my contract that I have to be there. So I had emailed my HR department to REMIND them I wouldn't be there since 1. my mat.leave doesn't end until 9/1 and 2. they don't give any childcare options.

I get an email back from my principal telling me that I should have told him I wasn't going to be there, that he was disappointed in me that I won't be there and now he is reconsidering my grade chair label.

I don't understand how me not going to something that I am not contractually obligated to go has anything to do with my ability to be grade chair. At this point I don't even want to do it. But I just find it ridiculous.

This is crazy! Sounds illegal. Forward your principals email to HR.
  • @addisonsmom22‌ that sounds so frustrating! I don't know what is about working in education, that principals think they can treat their teachers this way! This would not fly in other careers, so it should be the same for teachers!

I get so stabby when I read " this wouldn't fly in other careers" yes that situation sucks and I like @jtizzys email. But I am required to do things all the time that are not explicitly written out in a contract or paid for in addition to my salary. Like work multiple weekends (my last job was as many as 32 weekends a year no additional comp time)

That statement just turns every legitimate teacher claim (because I'm in the teachers should get paid more bandwagon) into an us vs them argument.

Sigh it's 430 am lo screaming and my nipple might be falling off. Sorry I'm crabby

Edit phone thought I meant shabby. Nope.

  • I actually meant because there are federal employment laws that don't apply to teachers (ex: pumping laws). I know that there are lots of careers where you don't get paid for all the extras! Should have worded it better.
