Snotty - sorry! - cold for a few months now, normal?

Hi all -

So apologies for the gross description in the title but it describes my cold better than anything!

Basically have been bunged up and snotty for at least the last 2 months I think...just constantly full up and bunged up. No other cold symptoms or feeling run down just that! Have never suffered with hayfever although am willing to accept this could be a possibility. Also I know that my immune system is lower because baby is taking all the nutrients etc so that's far too - just wondering if anyone else has anything like this too?

I forgot to mention it to my midwife but will do at my next appointment! I tend to find doctors/midwives often say "keep an eye on it" but what exactly does that mean if it's not going away?

Thanks all!

  • Google pregnancy rhinitis. It's a thing, unfortunately. I've been sneezing since February.

  • Some OTC allergy medicine is safe like Zyrtec. Also, I use a Neti-pot saline wash that really helps.

  • Every. Single. Day. If I plan on surviving through the night, I can't sleep with a breathe-right.

I think this is just one of those common and ever-so-lovely symptoms.
  • Both my BFF and I got allergies along with our first pregnancies. We never had allergies before and we both have allergies now almost 5 years later. :-(

  • I've had the nose congestion since March with no coughing or other symptoms. OB said it's normal pregnancy related.
  • Glad to hear I'm not alone even if it does mean we are all sniffling - thanks guys! :)
  • I never have had allergies and I haven't had a cold in a year, but I've been congested like a mofo since later in the first tri. I'm just used to it by now.

I'm pretty sure it is normal.

  • Very normal. Ask your OB for OTC med choices.
  • Yup, I can't breathe sometimes at night and I feel like I have constant drainage down my throat, it's the worst at night or after I eat.
  • Yes ma'am, lots of congestion.  It's worse at night.  Whined to the Dr. on Friday and she says it's normal.  Just another joy of pregnancy.  :)

  • I have had horrible stuffiness for most of this pregnancy.  From what I read, about 30% of people get it.  It sucks.  It is the worst at night, which negatively impacts my sleep.  Last night was bad.  I am sitting at work trying to stay awake (and I am exceptionally busy at work right now - a lot of big deadlines this week).
