ER was today!

So we just got home from our ER. Going into the retrieval today we knew that I had about 16 follicles measuring between 15-19. Our plan was to do the ER and freeze all and do a FET the first week in October.

The retrieval was done and as I was getting wheeled back to my room I looked at my hand. 7?! They were only able to retrieve 7? Our RE came in to talk to us and even she was disappointed. She was hoping to get at least 6 from my right ovary and she only got 2. We briefly talked about the next steps. My last ER there was 9 embryos, they transferred 2, and none made it to freeze. Our RE said that we should maybe freeze what we can and in October do another fresh cycle. I think right now L and I are just very disappointed. The whole point of doing the more aggressive route this cycle with the Lupron trigger was to get a bunch so I possibly wouldn't have to do injections and an ER again. We also aren't able to just do a fresh transfer this time because of the Lupron.

Right now I'm just going to cross my fingers that our Fert report is good tomorrow. We also have an appointment next week with our RE to talk about everything. I'm still a little out of it and in more pain this time around, so its nap time for me

It sounds like quite a roller coaster, and it is in times like these where there is so much to be nervous/hopeful/scared/excited about. Like @2mamazinseattle said, one of those little 7 could be your take home baby... It only takes one!

I will be thinking of you, and hoping the pain vacates quickly. Take good care of each other!

Friday was a hard day and although a little disappointing, we are thankful for the fact we are able to do IVF and that eggs were retrieved. This cycle was more aggressive and hard on my body. By Thursday I could barely walk and I wasn't sleeping so great. Friday was even harder. Even today I am still sore and slowly getting better.

We got the call yesterday that out of the 7 eggs retrieved, only 3 were mature and frozen. We have an appointment to meet with our RE to go over everything. We are still doing the transfer in October. Our RE was talking about doing a fresh cycle in October and keeping the frozen ones for later use but L thinks we should just stick to the original plan. I also really don't want to do another round of injections. When we first started talking about TTC, I told L how I really hoped for twins. She thought I was crazy! Well now L wants to tell the RE that in October to thaw the 3 embryos and if they all make it then we want the 3 transferred. Now I think she is the crazy one

I'm so sorry that the numbers weren't what you were hoping for. My wife went thru 2 rounds of IVF and kept getting low # of eggs retrieved. We never had anything left to freeze with her cycles. After her first unsuccessful cycle I read the book "IVF a patient guide" by Rebecca Matthews. It was awesome. Very insightful and I showed up to our WTF appt and had a discussion that was on a whole new level with our RE.
Also it's common to do freeze all cycles sometimes 2 or 3 to build a stock pile of embroyos before ever doing a transfer. It's typically done when the number of eggs retrieved are low.

@TwoMomsInTX‌ We just have SO many questions. I was kinda out of it when our RE came into the room after my ER and she was telling us how disappointed she was that she only got 7 and that we should just do a fresh cycle in October. I was thinking and hoping with the more aggressive route I would get at least more than 10. Before this cycle she told us the best thing to do would be a freeze all with the potential of never having to do an RE again. I loved that idea. Our plan is to have 2 kids with my eggs and 1 with L's.

I told L that maybe doing a fresh cycle again would be good and maybe we would have some to freeze again, but L can be very impatient sometimes and "just wants a baby now" and would like to stick to the original plan. Im just looking forward to our appointment so we can figure it all out.

This sounds just like us! They retrieved very few from us and then we actually only had two fertilize (one the first time)! Good luck with the transfer in Oct!!

We had our appointment with our RE today and we are doing a FET with the 3 embryos scheduled for October 11th! We debated and still might switch it to a fresh cycle, but L made it very clear she needs a break from the "beast" she calls me when I'm doing my shots

I have to agree. I think for our relationship we will probably stick with the FET.

I'm still playing catch up from this weekend, so just now responding. Just want to wish you a restful and stress free couple of months before October's FET!
