Do you like your first name? If no-- what would you change it to?

My first name is odd and I have only heard it once on a game show: Lawrene

It's Lawrence without the "c". My mom thought I was a boy, and surprise! Sooo...yeah...they removed the "c" to make it more feminine.

I do like that it is unique, and there were never a million Lawrene's in grade school. I always stood out. But-- people cannot spell to save their lives or read for that matter, and often called me "Lawrence". When I was younger, it bothered me so much I cried. Now that I'm older and really don't care, I just correct them and move on.

The fun part is going to an interview or a doctor's appointment and the person calling out "Lawrence", I stand up, their eyes get wide, they look at their paperwork confused, then say "Oh. I guess it says Lawrene. Sorry about that!"

What would I change my name to if I could? Lauren (similar, but easier to read/spell)

Paige - I hated it growing up...absolutely despised it! I always wanted to change it to Sarah - not sure why. I had never met or known of any other person with my name growing up and now it is fairly common and every time I hear someone call out to another with my name, it kind of freaks me out. I've only been hearing it the last 10 years so for 30 years I was the only one (not really, but you know what I mean).

Paige was almost my name! Then my dad wanted Shenan, which means star in Cherokee. Mom vetoed that and they settled on Shannon as a compromise. I was born in Australia, where it's an uncommon name, and mostly for boys. When we moved to the US, my mom was appalled at how common it was and tried to rename me Zoey at age 3. (Yes, my family is a little odd.)

I actually don't like my name very much. I think it's harsh-sounding, and I get Sharon or Janet all the time. (No, I don't know where "Janet" comes out of this.) I don't know what I'd change it to, though I think Paige or Zoey would have been preferable.

Mine is Elizabeth. I don't mind it at all. Most people cal me Liz, my best friend and a few family members call me Lizzie still. That makes me feel young and I love it!!!!! My great grandmother called me Elizabeth and it used to make me feel special because she was very proper and my name sounded important when she said it.
The only thing I don't like is that my mothers name is the same so our info is constantly getting switched. When I went to buy my house they told me I already had a mortgage, ah no that's my mother check the SS#. But that's all I don't care for. Now that I'm married and have a different last name it isn't so bad.

@Austrogermokee- Wait. Janet =/= Shannon. What the?!? People are weirdos.

@hooligans4 - I LOVE the name Elizabeth. My mother's middle name is Elizabeth. So-- we have decided if we have another DD one day, I plan to give her a shortened version of that name and name her Eliza.

Also-- my dad and brother have the same exact name, too. They also have the same issues you and your mother had, except, their names will never change so they are stuck with it!

Stacey. It's OK. When I was a kid it always made me think of a vacuum cleaner (I have no idea why...I was a weird kid). I don't love it and I don't hate it. At least no one mispronounces it but it does get spelled wrong all the time. Should I ever end up with a baby I swear on my life that I will not give them a phonetically ambiguous name that they have to correct everyone on. Eg. Andrea (pronounced Awndrea) or Maielle (My-elle). I always feel bad for people who have to constantly correct others on their name.

Mine is Anna, I have always liked it. I haven't met many other Anna's although I know it's a fairly common name. My parents were hippies and wanted to name me something like Rainbow, but my grandmother talked them into going with a family name instead.

Mine is Lisa. I love it now because the classic names are going out of style. In school though I got called Lisa Lisa and the cult jam and Mona Lisa a few times. I didn't mind it so much when the Simpson episode aired where Michael Jackson sang a birthday song for Lisa. I had a guy sing that song to me one time for my birthday. It was really sweet. To bad it wasn't the guy I had a crush on. Le Sigh, middle school woes.

I was not fond of Meredith as a child. It is not a common name and everyone misspells it. I started signing my papers as Donna in 2nd grade for some reason, but I got out of that phase. I get called Heather a lot now, I must look like a Heather. Now Meredith is fine with me. Sometimes I go by Mere, but I don't like Merry/Mary which a few have tried to shorten it to. My mom has always called me M&M as a nickname.

@Austrogermokee - that's actually strange that the name Paige was in Australia in the 70's...not a name I would associate with that country! For my parents, it was a toss up between Paige and Leslie and Paige won.

The person my mother got my name from married a guy whose last name is nine - YES 9! I would NEVER change my name to Paige Nine! LOL

Kirsten is i think a name of my ancestry which is largely Norwegian.

Its often mis pronounced Kersten, Kristin, or some variation. Phonetically its Curse-ten. My husband likes my name cause he thinks its different than the normal variations of my name....it has grown on me and suits me I think.

My name is Kelley. I like my name because it's mine, I was once signed up to play football in little league as opposed to cheerleading, guess the extra e confused them... I cannot imagine having any other name. The extra e was a little aggravating causing corrections innumberable times.

Now, my middle name was Lewise. Awful. My father's middle name was Lewis so adding yet another e... guess my parents felt all the e's made my name feminine but I don't agree.

My oldest son is a junior and it causes paperwork headaches on occasion. My 11 year old's first name is William but he goes by his middle, Lucas, that is sometimes a document nightmare but I would not change any of my boys' names, they are who they are.

I have always loved my name. It was my great aunt's name. It is unusual (old unusual, not weird unusual) so there were never any other kids in school (or college) with my name. It is a classic French name which was always funny to me because my mom's family is German.

Katie - short for Katherine.

I love the name Katherine, and hated Katie as a child. I always said when I went to college I would have people call me "Kate" which I thought was more sophisticated and grown up....but every time someone would ask me my name, I would blurt out "Katie". Soooo, there you go.

I like it a lot more now than I used to, and some of my friends call me "Kates" which is fun, too.

I had a college professor who's name was Paige Turner. Turner was her married name so at least she didn't have to go thru ridicule as a child. Btw I love the name Paige.

Mine is Erin, I actually really like my name. I just hate when people automatically think that it is spelled Aaron. I actually had one lady argue me down that my name was masculine and for a boy....what a weirdo!

Crystal isn't a bad name. I had a period of time in middle and high school that I wasn't too fond of it, but I do like it now. I'm never too thrilled when people automatically and without warning or permission shorten it to Chris, especially since my husbands name is Chris.......after so long together the Chris & Chris joke is getting old.

I was supposed to be a boy, and named after my father and grandfather, but then they found out about 8 months I was a girl and picked out Tiffany, only I was about 3 weeks late and my cousin was born about 2 weeks before me and they named her Tiffany, so since my Dad wanted my middle name to be after his Auntie who helped raise him, he thought Crystal went well with the name Brooks.........it's borderline hippie Dad, seriously.

But in all honesty I now love my name.

I don't know what I will do when I finally get a BFP, So many people say to cut back on the caffeine now, but I just CAAAAAN'T DO IT!

I'm with Emily Oster. No strong evidence of harm = gimme my three cups!

I was once sick with the flu and ended up off coffee because I didn't feel like having any, so it's plausible the same thing could happen with pregnancy.

As lower-caffeine alternatives I absolutely love assam tea (86 mg of caffeine per cup - high for tea!), and the Mighty Leaf vanilla bean (probably closer to 50mg).

@marijaa333, oh I think i've had that vanilla bean tea, yum! don't know that I have ever had assam tea before though I'll have to try it.
