Help with sciatic nerve pain!

If there has been a helpful post already, please provide link. I have had on again/off again pain for weeks. This morning I can barely walk. My leg is giving out slightly and I have pain shooting from my butt to my knee. I took Tylenol. I do not have the option of resting in bed right now. I havent called OB but I was told they will tell me: Tylenol and rest. Just wanting to know if anyone has had any remedies that have worked? I did not have this with first pregnancy. My next OB appt is the end of this month. Thank you!

Re: Help with sciatic nerve pain!

  • Rolling around on a yoga ball would usually be enough for me to at least move. It wasn't a long term fix, but a good temporary one.

  • I've been suffering from this too. If it continues I'll definitely be bringing it up at my next midwife apt on Sept 4th.

Good luck with your pain. :( I'm gonna stick around here and see if there are more temp solutions.

  • Thank you for the tips :). My SIL also just told me that I should see a chiropractor. STM here and i thought i wasnt allowed to (im still learning apparently). She gave me the name of the dr she saw. I will call my OB and get the referral. I read a few excersises on the internet but I was too afraid to even try them because the pain was so bad...but since it was mentioned here as helpful, I will try it. I cant wait to never be pregnant again :). I love my children with all my heart but it's two and through for me. Call me the weakest link but this pregnancy has been rough!
  • Heating pad and then stretch, and the heating pad again- it sorta helps. I didn't have it at all the first time around, but it is HORRIBLE this time. Good luck.

  • Thank you! I did some stretches, laid down on the opposite side of pain (hoping baby would move), and took a hot shower. For now, the pain is gone. So at least that helped. This morning i honestly couldnt walk without holding onto something, limping, and moving as slow as a 90 year old woman. This sucks :(. Im sorry for anyone else going through it and thank you for your help.
  • Ugh I've posted about this before too. It's so awful at times. I haven't visited a chiro but I have heard good things about them helping out. Also, if you look up stretches for sciatic nerve pain, you'll find quite a few that I think are helpful. My OB recommended the cat/cow yoga stretch and it's my favorite. My pain seems to come at random, stays a few days, and then disappears for a couple weeks. I have definitely connected it to days where I am far less active though. Good luck! Hope it goes away soon!

  • Google sciatic stretches, they are amazing! I have had to start doing them regularly because mine has been hurting on and off for 2 weeks. It's made a big difference and I haven't had any pain in about 4 days :)

  • Go to a chiropractor! I swear by mine and literally just walked in the door from an appointment b/c my back was bothering me so much.

  • Thank you everyone!!!!
  • I never had this with DS and this time around I swear it gets worse daily. My ob prescribed me flexorel (spelling?) and it helps but it's never completely gone. I haven't found a stretch that's worked for me but I'm going to try the ones @Ainslie325‌ posted earlier. Thanks for those!
