Ok now, baby powder?!?

So yuri's post about baby oil got me wondering who has used or plans to use baby powder and for what?

In 3 kiddos I have never used baby powder! Share the knowledge. :)

Re: Ok now, baby powder?!?

  • Again, no first hand experience but our instructor at our newborn care class really stressed not to use it. Something about breathing it in is terrible for you and baby.

  • Nope, we never used it here either. We were told it can cause respiratory issues with excessive use.

  • Never used it until I learned it would take sand off your feet at the beach! I relocated all our baby powder to my parents place at the beach and now it's getting some use!!
  • Never used it. I don't even know what it's used for.

  • I've heard of the sand thing. The only reason I have ever used baby powder is to make it look like dd1 had gray hair for Halloween one year.

Diaper rash ointment I actually don't use either! I started using lansinoh lanolin nipple stuff. It is a magically healing potion!
  • It's because of the talcum powder, but it's actually fine to use, it's being extreme to say no no never use it. I don't use it though because it's messy.

  • I just love the smell of it
  • Only when we go to the beach to get sand off of us
  • Another vote for using it to get sand off at the beach!

  • I've used it on my girls when a rash is so bad (at first) that they would never let me touch it to put on the cream. It just absorbs the extra moisture. If you pour a little an inch over the area, you will never get a cloud of talc to inhale.

Also, for the most part, we've really only needed it as they started to wipe themselves and didn't do the best job of getting things dry.

Last, if you're really in a bind and don't have dark hair, you can use it to absorb excess oil in your hair until you get a chance to wash it.

  • Has anyone seen what this lady does with baby powder on My Strange Addiction??

Oh, and I will not be using baby powder.
    Ack!! No!!

  • I use it on my sweaty boobs and to prevent thigh rub. I won't be using it on baby.

SO uses it on his thighs. That is the only use we have for it.
  • I'm with @Yuristar‌... only using it in my shoes. :)

  • Second (third?) using it on my thighs... Especially in the heat. I think I've used 1 bottle in five years though.

  • Never used it and I don't like the smell of baby powder either.  I swear by aquafor for diaper rash.  Anything my DS had I put it on and it was gone the next day.

  • I use it on my thighs too. Will not be using it on the baby.

  • I just bought it today! I just heard about the sand thing. We're going to the beach this week so I got a small container. I'll probably leave it there.
  • I tried it in my hair once when I accidentally added too much smoothing stuff. It kind of soaked it up. But mostly we use it to make bath paint. Mix baby powder, baby soap, a little water and food coloring.

  • Don't like it, nor the smell. We've never used it. But I also am in the aquaphor camp, that stuff is amazing. Total cure all for skin.

baby #3 arrived in September 2014...cannot get ticker to work no matter what I try!

  • It's dangerous for LO to breathe in and I read that it causes cancer. I have blonde hair and powder it on my brush and comb through my hair with it, it's the best dry shampoo ever. I think the ideas others have posted about putting it in shoes, going to sprinkle some into DH's shoes tonight

LMAO...I read this as "I use it on my sweaty boobs to prevent thigh rub." Created some funny visuals!

I so hope this mental image is not foreshadowing 40 years from now :/ lol

  • Watch out if you use the cornstarch kind for diaper rash or on your boobs. Thrush/yeast feeds off that stuff.

Thanks sparks! Do you have an alternate suggestion for keeping my boobs from sweating a gross pattern into my shirts? I'd like to avoid thrush!

Oh, geez!!! Cornstarch, boobs, thrush, yeast and diaper rash!?!?!? If someone came in in the middle of this conversation and had no idea what was being talked about, those would be some interesting keywords...

When it's hot, I've actually used deodorant under the band of my bra. I don't keep baby powder in the house and it does help.
  • I never heard anything about not using baby powder. I will be using it on my baby girl.
  • Not sure how I went so many years living by the beach without knowing about this trick with the baby powder... lol I guess I just got used to the perpetual layer of sand.

  • All I can think about is the episode of Friends with Ross and the leather pants.

Never used it on the baby.

  • Baby powder isn't good to use on baby like pps have said. Corn starch is fine though. I have a baby powder that is corn starch instead of talc and I use that on top of my diaper cream with they have a rash. Pedi recommended it as well as baking soda baths for rash. Baby powder is Locked in our cupboard in the bathroom. It's good for freshening up your hair and apparently getting sand off feet.
