Re: Pregnancy Eczema... what to do???

  • I'm sorry, that really sucks. I've had eczema off and on my whole life and I've never found any natural remedies. The only thing that works for me is a prescription steroid cream :(

  • Get a beeswax ointment and apply it every time you get itchy and after every shower.beeswax heals open cuts easily and quickly so it should help prevent scabbing, and heal the areas that already are
  • The only thing that works well on my occasional eczema is a prescription steroid ointment, but I can use an over the counter hydrocortisone in a pinch, too. You can pick some up at any pharmacy.

  • Burts bees cream and or oil works for me the best. Their source is natural. Maybe you can chexk out the ingredients. I have also tried cetaphil and that helps too. Since you live in australia im not sure which brands you get in stores but i think you should be able order online if you decide on something that is not available locally.

  • Aquaphor!
I also have eczema in my ears and just use mineral oil on the daily. Just to stop the itching.
  • I second the aquaphor recommendation. Slather it on after every shower. Your showers should be lukewarm and you should pat dry instead of rubbing. For really troublesome spots, use an emollient cream (Aquaphor makes one, as does Eucerin).

  • Coconut oil worked for my daughter. Hers was mild. Also, if you have any access to breast milk, it works wonderfully.

  • I'd also take a good probiotic and take a look at your diet to see if you could be eating/drinking anything that would cause it.

  • I struggled with pregnancy eczema with DD....it also hung around the duration of breastfeeding. I used coconut oil, and I had to use cortisone when it was really bad. I also found that aveeno made a skin soothing cream and it really helped. I also prefer to try to stay natural, but I wanted relief more! I had a patch on the front of each shin and one on my hand. It was awful and ugly, I feel your pain. I'm hoping it doesn't come back this time..../
  • My son has awful eczema and his dermatologist suggests washing with cetaphil and then not drying completely and applying Vaseline to damp skin to trap the moisture. She also says it's best to not use a wash cloth or anything like that and to juat applys soap with your hand. For the very bad flares we do use prescription hydrocortisone or a steroid ointment, but the cetaphil and Vaseline have stopped most flares.

  • I know you said you prefer natural, but the only thing that really helps mine is using rubbing alcohol, followed by using calamine lotion with some gauze and wrap to keep it on my foot (I get it all over my feet year round). I've had eczema my whole life, and it's the only thing I can use consistently to help.

Do you use the calamine lotion during preg? I have some and my hands are flaring up. I've used rubbing alcohol before and it helped with the itching. I want to try the calamine lotion too.

i have been. I have such a difficult time with finding meds that work for almost every scenario of things that my doctors are hesitant to change what does work. I haven't had to use it much lately, though, for some reason. I expect that to change as we enter the fall, which is when it's the worst for me
    ----

Well, I might just have to break out my calamine lotion then. My hands are pretty bad lately. I have steroid cream which works wonders but I have been looking for other alternatives since getting pregnant.
