Sensory Bins

I love the sensory bins idea from the baby boredom thread. I'm trying to gather stuff and I'm looking for ideas. I've got some ribbon, a scrap of fabric, and a wash rag. I'm going to cut some old jeans and an old tee shirt for more fabric. I've got a potholder, baby hanger, old cd, a little stuffed toy, a rattle, a measuring cup, and old credit card, a teething toy, a tupperware container, and the lid from a formula container.  Any other ideas?

  • Loading the player...
  • Rope or string, an old sock, a pen (you can take the ink out), random fabric swatches for different materials, a cup, a napkin/paper towel, if you can find some bubble wrap, a toothbrush. I agree with using anything that would hurt them in anyway. Just make sure to get different sizes, shapes, materials, etc.
  • I don't have a sensory bin, but DD loves solo cups.
  • @crunchymama11‌ Thread jack here... Dd1 just turned 3 recently right? What kind of curriculum are you doing with her? Are you doing your own lesson plans or following a curriculum booklet of some sort?
Ds1 (just turned 3) is getting board and Ive been trying to do stuff with him but the day seems to get lost in a mess of diapers, cleaning and feeding. How do you stay on track with getting all household stuff and shopping done but still allotting enough quality time to school her? Gahh sorry I have a bajillion questions here, teach me your ways!!!
  • @Herefishy87‌ I'm not crunchymama, but I do a tot school for DS, so I'll share what we do. I think of a theme every week-sometimes it's a color, sometimes a thing or object, sometimes it's an idea like sharing. Everyday we try to do a gross motor, fine motor, art project, and at least one reading or writing activity related to the theme.. I actually do this with 3 other friends twice a week, so it's a major part if our weekly plans and we take turns hosting, we've been doing it for about 2 years now.

Wow you do a lot too! I think I need to step up my game, day to day chores are getting too much of my attention.
I do love the idea of getting friends involved. I wish mine didn't suck cause that sounds like a lot of fun!
  • We have it organized 2 a week for 3 1/2 hrs. Trust, there is no way I ever could do it all every day. And to be honest some of the activities are total busts and we only do them for about 3 minutes. It's very child led. We do it co-op style, so every day we do it, 2 mommies stay and 2 have off. It's the best commitment I've ever done. And, since we're still paying off my student loans, I feel like I'm actually using my degree.
