July 2013 Moms

Biting

We were at a party yesterday and a little girl bit Ty :(
He cried and cried. The little girl kept coming after Ty. She was pulling his hair, tackling him and tried to bite him a few other times.
The mom felt so bad that she cried. I went and talked to her privately. I told her I wasn't mad and it happens. I worked at a daycare for 9 years!
Have any of your little ones been bitten yet? Or are they the ones doing the biting?

Re: Biting

  • Ouch! Poor little guy!!
Jax has bitten his older brother a couple of times. On the arm though...
It was because DS was either taking a toy away from him or something away from him that he could choke on. Jax yelled and just lunged at him.
Now that DS knows what triggers it he can avoid the biting either by moving or a firm no, if necessary. DS wasn't a biter.

  • LO has bitten me and DH a couple times. We sternly tell him no and he doesn't do it again but I think he's done it to MIL once or twice and she laughs so now idk if he thinks it's a funny thing or not.

  • Ben has been biting at DC. Usually when somebody takes his toy and he's teething. It sucks to have the one who bites.

  • Riley was bitten at DC this week. It didn't break the skin and she was fine. They said she didn't cry she just looked shocked!

  • H only bites me :-/ thank goodness.
  • Mackenzie bites when she gets excited. She did it to MIL and my MIL bit her back pretty hard. She started screaming and reaching for DH. I was pissed.

I would be fuming. That's awful.
This is the 2nd time I've read about this happening on TB. So confused. Like I don't follow the logic or thought process of biting a baby. At all.
This. And we're supposed to teach them not to bite by... BITING? Oy.

Isaac has been biting me really hard the last few days. Molars, ack!
  • Tess has biten me a few times (nippls, shoulder, fingers) but no one else.  She has been bitten at daycare.  It broke the skin pretty bad, but she's fine.  Its totally normal at this age.
She does hit when she gets frustrated, but I think she's only ever hit adults, not kids.  I'm trying hard to gently correct the behavior.
@emmanemm what did you husband do???? I can't even imagine what I'd do if someone bit my baby

  • As far as I know Mason has only ever bit me and DH, I currently have 2 bruises from his piranha teeth. I always let out a yelp when he does it because I never see it coming. I cant even imagine an adult biting my child, attempt to prove a point or not, it's not okay.

  • We've had encounters. Most of the time the mom is super apologetic & it is ok. It's when the mom does nothing to redirect that I get stabby. :-w

We had a similar incident at the library this morning with a 2 year old trying to shove Alex & pinch him. The mom was really trying but both the 2 year old & 4 year old were beating up on my kids. They finally left but both Abby & Alex were a mess. :(

Yes I'm sure I would have felt differently if the mom didn't care or redirect. She felt AWFUL and tried to keep her daughter away from Ty. And she kept coming and checking on him. He was over it as soon as the pain went away. He still has a distinct bite mark today.

Yeah a mom-friend of mine at Playgroup. Her son, Gray, is a biter & a pincher. He LOVES Abby & Alex. He gets excited & maims people because he's just a big loveable oaf. She has broken down many times when Gray has really hurt someone out of sheer excitement.

Shit happens man, it sucks. :-??

  • Keenan hasn't bitten any other kids, just us. It's playful biting, which sucks. One second it'll be like sucking on my arm and them the sharp little teeth will get me. I need to get more consistent with getting after him, instead of laughing when it doesn't hurt and then getting after him when it does. He will bite our fingers too, pretty hard.

He actually bit my sister a while back, it was really funny. Keenan was trying to walk to my mom and my sister (she's 14), would get in his way whenever he would try. Finally he got fed up with her, grabbed her face, and bit her right on the nose. I wasn't there but I laughed when I heard about it. Definitely not something we want to encourage, but she totally deserved it!
