Boy Name for B/G Twins

edited August 2014 in Baby Names
It is important to DH and I both to have names for our twins that have a meaning behind them. The ultrasonographer is 75% sure we have one boy and one girl, and even though we aren't ready to paint the nursery over 75% certainty, I can't help but think of names! Along with a name that has meaning to us, we do not want our twins to have "matchy" names. We have narrowed girl names down to Harper and Charlotte, even though they have gotten increasingly trendy. Charlotte is my grandmother and we have always had a very close relationship. Harper is after my favorite author, Harper Lee. My grandfather went to school with her and I have always been enamored by her story and life. Now, to pick a boy name......I welcome honest opinions!

Alexander - The last name of my great great grandmother. She is the last one in the family to have twins (she had four sets of twins!).

Douglas - My paternal grandfather. He was an author and an all around badass.

William (no Will, Bill, Billy, etc. NNs) - DH's father. His father died when DH was 18, so he's always had this on his list for his children.

McDaniel - DH's close college friend who died very young. It's not common and is starting to sound great to me.

SS - All of these names are stupid.

  • I voted Alexander but I also love William.  Either name would be a great name.  I don't care for Douglas (it's FIL's name).

I think Charlotte and William go great together.
  • I think William and Charlotte are really nice together.

  • I love Douglas!

I'm a fan of Mc names, but McDaniel doesn't do it for me. I have a McKinnon and love that it can be shortened to Mac.

William and Alexander are nice, but you don't hear Douglas as often which I really like.

  • I am starting to agree about McDaniel the more times I say it outloud.  I'm starting to think about using it as a MN though.  Douglas McDaniel or William McDaniel.

I couldn't shorten it to Mac because my little sister has been wanting to name her son (if that ever happens - they are TTC) McClellan after our grandfather and call him Mac.

  • Hands down William. William Alexander is nice. Or maybe save Alexander in case the ultrasonographer was wrong and you have 2 boys.

  • I love William and think the family significance would make it hands down my first choice. I also love Alexander. I don't like McDaniel - I'd drop the "Mc" if you really want to use it and just go with Daniel (which I like), or put McDaniel in the MN spot. Although William Alexander sounds great.

I LOVE Charlotte. Much prefer it to Harper, although Harper is fine too.
  • Definitely Charlotte and William.

If you went with Harper, then I would vote for Alexander.

I agree about McDaniel- middle name it

  • I love Alexander/Alex.

William is of course always great.

It's cool that you have an association with Harper - but good laws there are so many of them running around right now. I think it's really going to scream 2010 down the road and I'm weird, but any name celebrities use I immediately cross off.

Charlotte is also insane popular but more classic.

  • William and Alexander are tied for me but the significance of William wins it. I don't care for the other two

  • I love Harper. I know it is trendy now, but I've loved it for years- since muddle school when I met a girl named Harper and read To Kill A Mockingbird in the same year. So, trendy or not, I love it.

William is just a wonderful name, and honors DHs dad, so I think it is perfect. I do worry, though, if you are 100% against any nns. It is one of those names that pretty naturally gets shortened. My 2nd choice would be McDaniel, but I'd call him Mac. Harper and Mac is darling.
  • Charlotte and Alexander!

  • We've pretty much decided that he will be William. If he gets shortened to Will it isn't the end of the world, just not my fave. For girls we are still at Charlotte or Harper, so we will see what continues to stick. DH wants to call Charlotte Charlie which I hate. That is my parents' dog's name for goodness gracious.

Could he be Alexander Douglas? Everyone wants to be named after a badass and both namesakes sound great. I also really like William, but since you don't like the common nn's I'd be cautious. Who knows what little Will/Bill/Liam will want to go by when he's old enough to choose.

ETA: whoops, missed your response above. William is awesome. I think William Alexander or William Douglas would be nice :)

  • I really love Douglas and I love how underused it is right now. Charlotte & Douglas gets my vote followed by Charlotte & William. My only caveat is that Charlotte and Douglas weren't your grandparents that were married to each other. If Douglas is paternal, then Charlotte has to be from the maternal side other wise it think it is a bit creepy.

I would only use Harper and McDaniel in the MN spots, but I would definitely prioritize his deceased father over his deceased friend. So Douglas William or William McDaniel

  • i pick alexander because i loved the meaning behind the name.
  • I would say...

if the girls name is Charlotte than William McDaniel

If the girls name is Harper than Douglas

I have to say I LOVE William and Charlotte and totally think you should go for that!!!!!
  • I like the meaning behind Alexander a lot. I like all the names except McDaniel (the meaning is nice, though). My vote is for Alex.
