I haven't taken it during this pregnancy yet, but really, it is just soda/pop. I am sure you have had some of that at least at one point or another in your life.
My MW did have a suggestion for me. Since I have low BP while pregnant, she said to ask for a private exam room to lie down in while I waited. I took her advice and enjoyed myself. I brought a book and a couple of magazines and made the best of my lazy morning.
It's all about attitude, I think. I am doing a two hour test this time around right off the bat and not dreading it at all. It is no big deal. (Compared to L&D, this is a cruise to the Caribbean.)
Not too bad for me. I heard it was better cold, so I refrigerated. Just like flat super sugary orange soda . I don't like the way the drink makes me feel...a little jittery. A snack after helped me.
Nah. Tasted like warm orange soda. Gross, but it was fine.
They gave it to you warm? Yuck! My doc sent it home last appt, so it's in my fridge until my upcoming appt. As I recall from last time, it wasn't bad cold.
I didn't mind it, to me it was like orange gatorade. They gave it to me cold, I drank it slowly over 5 mins and wasn't allowed any water after but it was totally fine. Hopefully I pass cause I'm not sure how I'd handle the 3 hours without eating!
TTC since Sept 2011, Unexplained IF Oct 12 - Jan 14: 3 clomid/TI cycles, 2 hysteroscopies, 2 IUIs, 1 BFP (MMC @ 12w), 2 more IUIs Feb 14: Gonal-f + IUI #5 = BFP! (EDD 11/4/14) Baby boy arrived 11/13/14!
It really wasn't too bad and they gave it to me warm. My doctor recommended eating protein about three or so hours before ( I was told not to eat two hours before). I had three eggs and that seemed to help keep something in my stomach. I'm very prone to nausea and I didn't get sick.
It was fine for me. Like a melted orange popsicle. I had kept mine refrigerated. Not something I would drink on my own if I didn't have to, but I had no issues with it. It seems every office has different rules. I was not allowed to eat or drink anything afterwards and for an hour before I drank it, but I felt fine.
I think it depends of you like soda. I don't so to me It was gross. The 1 hr was orange. That one they gave me to take home. So at least it was ice cold when I drank it. I failed the test though. The 3hr was lime and double the glucose (100g). It was disgusting. It's really misleading they call it the three hr test. It really takes 4+ The worst part was halfway thru the four hrs when I was dizzy and getting chills. Good news is I passed. Be prepared for it to suck and hopefully it won't be awful for you. During the 3hr the only thing you are allowed is water so I brought a huge ice water which helped me get the glucose down Good Luck!!!
It wasn't so much the actual drinking of the drink that was so bad for me it was the way it made me feel afterwards. Just make sure you sip lots of water afterward. I think if you aren't use to eating high sugar foods on a regular bases it can be a shock to your system.
I failed the 1 hour and am scheduled for the 3 hour test on tuesday. I didn't think the 1 hour was bad at all. Not looking forward to spending half of my day in the lab! Fingers crossed I pass this time!!!!!

I did the 1 hour at the OB's office and they kept it room temperature. I took the 2 hour at a lab and they refrigerated theirs. Aside from the slight brain freeze I got from chugging it, cold was better. I wouldn't say either tasted "good", but let's just say the cold one was less bad.
Both times I felt a little "off" for a while, but no nausea or dizziness. The nurses did ask, though, so I guess that's not uncommon.

It wasn't too bad.. I did feel nauseas after but luckily I didn't throw it up. However, my OB said not to drink water after because it could dilute the results?? But I've heard others say their OB say it was ok. Good luck it's not too bad!! I'm waiting on my results.. Hoping I passed !
The one hour was fine, the three hour....I lost all my color I felt like I was going to pass out and I had a hard time keeping it down, but after an hour I felt better. The first hour was the worst for me. I don't like sweet stuff though.
The lab gave me my 1hr drink cold.. And maybe I'm weird but it was DELICIOUS. no joke. I was expecting it to taste like flat orange soda.. But figured it would have a medicine taste.. Or weird aftertaste. Nope! I think you'll do fine! I was told no water during my 1hr wait but it seems like other labs do it differently from the responses here. If you're allowed water that would help reduce the jittery feeling you may get. Good luck!
I had the orange version, cold, and it was actually pretty good (sweet, but OK). I did have some heartburn but other than that I was fine.
I will say that if I had tried to drink it on an empty stomach, I would have probably hurled. I've seen some girls on here say their doctors said not to eat anything the morning of the 1 hour so that they would pass. That's not how the test is designed and it makes no sense to try to cheat it since it's a diagnostic test meant to find out if something is wrong! I had 2 eggs and 2 pieces of toast at 8:15 then chugged my drink at 10:30. I think if you have some protein in your stomach, a few carbs (not like, chocolate chip pancakes), you'll feel much better than if you just eat a bowl of cereal.

Did anyone else not get the drink down in 5 minutes like they ask? I just drank mine and it took me a whopping 15 minutes--I was struggling. First few sips weren't bad...and then it was all downhill from there. Do you think they'll make me do it again?

I had the cold flat orange soda one too and it wasn't that bad. I was curious about the amount of sugar actually in it so compared to some blueberry jam I had in the fridge at the time- it equaled 4 tablespoons of jam. Which I could eat pretty easily. So I went into it assuming it would be no problem and I was right. Don't psych yourself out about it!
I think it's tasty. But I have a sweet tooth. They said I had 5 minutes to drink it. I had it down in 40 seconds. Chug.
Same. For me, it tasted like Diet Sunkist. She left the room for 5 minutes and I wish she would have just stayed bc I had it downed in 30 seconds with no problems before or after.
My failing score was 159. 3 hour test for me tomorrow!! Fasting starts in about a half hour....sad about that lol. Can't remember the last time I went 12+hours without food lol
