Reason behind Nesting

DH thinks I am in nesting mode. We spent a lot of time cleaning yesterday and I am ready to get going again today. I just don't want to sit around and think about whether each Braxton Hicks I have is getting stronger or developing into pattern. Do you think nesting is a real instinct for you or just a desire to keep busy/keep your mind off things?

Re: Reason behind Nesting

  • For me it's a desire to get stuff done, keep my mind of things and have one less thing on my to-do list but I am a total type A.

  • I am actually more of a type B personality, so I guess I don't normally have the "get it done now" drive. I wish I did sometimes!

  • I'm not really sure I've gotten the "nesting" drive. I clean and organize.. But only because I like things cleaned and organized.. I don't think I've experienced anything more that's pregnancy related.. But it's the same with cravings. There are foods that sounds good to me.. But nothing that I think "I must eat that NOW"
  • I think it's a combination of instinct and desire to stay busy.... my problem with nesting is that I don't have the energy to do everything I'm desperate to do :-(

  • I've spent a lot of time organizing all our closets and spaces that were cluttered.  I want everything to be perfect and ready for my new little family.  I extremely enjoyed putting together the nursery.  And I'm a type A who needs to be 100% prepared.  I also am keeping up on everything because I don't wanna go into labor with a dirty house.

Pregnancy has been hard for me because I like to control/plan everything and I can't with this.  Cleaning in one thing I can control so thats what I chalk it up to,
  • I can not really blame nesting. I just hate when things are a mess and I am not prepared. It drives me nuts.

  • I didn't start "nesting" until I got my c-section scheduled for this Wednesday.  I have since put a bunch of stuff on craigslist, cleaned everything, set up the swing and diaper changing station, installed the new TV and dimmable ceiling fans (husband), and organized my porch finally.  Yeah... the certainty of the date got me moving.

I don't know if it is just because I am in a terrible mood lately but I really dislike the term nesting and I really can't stand how other people are analyzing my behavior/symptoms and telling me when they think I will go into labor. Every pregnancy is different. With almost every symptom it is 100% normal if you have it and 100% normal if you don't. With "nesting" some people get that energy burst shortly before labor, others get it weeks ahead, and others not at all.

Just because I keep myself busy and cross things off my to do list does not mean I am "nesting". I just call it being prepared and being a responsible adult.

    Sigh.
    End Rant.

Edited for incoherent sentences due to pregnancy rage and rib pain.

  • I skipped "nesting" and went straight to the idgaf mode. Until I discovered today that my in-laws are coming. Now I've got to get moving whether I want to our not. *sigh*

  • I wouldn't so much call what I've been doing "nesting" I would describe it more like cramming because I'm such a procrastinator and have been putting things off this entire pregnancy that need done. And it's go time baby.  It's just like what I did in school before a test.  :P
