Re: There's an Essential Oil for that.

  • I've been using lavender and vetiver on DS's feet after bath time. Just started using a lavender spray on car rides and it seems to be helping!

  • We used to use lavender and tea tree in our wipes warmer as wipes solution. Will start making my own lavender+ ylang ylang wipe soap. Ylang ylang is my fav, so relaxing. We use eucalyptus for colds/flu and such.
  • I use lavender in my homemade disinfectant recipe as well as my carpet cleaner recipe.

  • Where could I find a lavender spray?LO hates riding in the car!
  • How do you use the oils? Do you mix with coconut oil before application? I will post my diaper rash cream, cloth wipes solution and all purpose cleaner when I get home!
I use tea tree oil, lavender, peppermint and lemon.

  • For lavender spray I just put a few drops of lavender in a spray bottle with water!

Some EOs need a carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut oil) and others can be applied "neat" (undiluted). For babies, it's advised to always dilute.

  • Okay I haven't used oils straight on my LO, always in mixtures. I had heard to mix with a carrier. Do any of you consume EO's?? I have never but heard some are edible.

We bought capsules for allergy relief (lemon, peppermint, lavender). They help DH but I can't take them because peppermint can hurt BF supply.
I have used the lemon one in water!

  • Also- if you consume them you need to be sure you're buying high quality oils intended for consumption. They are not all created equal!! My SIL learned that the hard way...

I started buying mine from a local natural store, but decided to become a company rep just so I could get wholesale pricing. :) I guess I technically have a storefront through them but I've not used it.

  • I love EO! I used them in my classroom and I noticed a big difference in using like lysol cleaner vs. EO. Less sickness. No lie.

I use them for baths, diffusing, cleaning, baby wipe spray etc.

I hear there is a recipe for bug spray - I am going to try it :)
  • I use lavender in DD's bath each night. Definitely has a lovely calming effect. I've used tea tree oil in my mouth wash for years. Since I teach, we get lots of head lice outbreaks at school in the early fall. I put a little tea tree oil at my hair line because I read lice don't like it, lol. I often wear lemon grass oil on my wrists and neck instead of perfume because it reminds DH & I of our honeymoon in st. Lucia.
  • If you have a Whole Foods in your area, Whole Body carries them. I have a few holistic health stores near me (NJ) that carry them as well.
  • Also a big fan of lavender oil, I put some drops in a bath before bedtime, and spray a diluted solution on the bed sheets. I brought lavender oil with me for labor too for it's calming effects.

I also like tea tree oil, it's great for fighting funguses, so I used it on my scalp when I had psoriasis, and I rub it between my toes when I give myself pedicures. As someone else mentioned, it's also great on blemishes. I thought about using some on LO's mild cradle cap but it made me nervous as it's highly flammable. Any one use it on baby before?
  • @knotty-girl‌ I have terrible psoriasis on my feet. What exactly to you use and how? I've been meaning to look in to EO for it.

I got the oil from my acupuncturist. I would use a dropper to squeeze drops in increments along my scalp and massage in. You can dilute it if you want because it can be fume-y if you use it on your head. If you use it on your scalp DO NOT go and smoke a cigarette afterwards. Also probably a good idea to thoroughly wash your hands. For psoriasis on your feet I'd just massage it directly on it as well.
  • I love the doTerra blend called Balance. I use is for me and the boys on days when someone is acting/feeling out of sorts. I notice that it helps me keep my cool a bit better on a bad day. I also love using lavender or Roman Chamomile to help the kids sleep. I used Ginger in 1st Tri to help with nausea and Ylang Ylang to keep my blood pressure under control in the 3rd Tri.

  • My mom used to keep lemon in a diffuser at her work desk for rejuvenation. I started thinking after this thread that maybe I'd like to start cleaning my kitchen with it in vinegar.

Just not on granite or marble
  • This all sounds so interesting! I have no experience with essential oils and would like more info. I'm sleep deprived so something to the point and easy to read. A guide for dummies if you will. Any suggestions?

Curious about the lemon oil for funky laundry one because I do wash and forget about it at least twice a week. I hate having to run it through again! Where/how would you use the oil in the dryer?

I don't think it would stain (like regular oils) so probably just right in with the clothes then run another rinse cycle?

  • Ok I'm starting to use doterra's "slim and sassy" blend. I didn't think I could while BFing (contains peppermint whic can reduce supply) but everything I've read says it's ok!

FX this helps get my metabolism to stop sucking!!

It depends- I have some blends that I use regularly in roller balls (fractionated coconut oil + the EOs). Other times I just put a few drops of coconut oil in my hand then a drop of the EO and mix it together on the spot.

I have roller ball but I have vanilla, lemon, lavender, and tea tree. Also sweet almond oil and rose hips I just didn't know if it was like 50/50 blend or like 99/1 co to eo ratio.

Oh definitely not 50/50- most of mine are more like 25/75 (oil to carrier) depending on the blend.

Lavender and lemon in the diffuser and in my body scrub. Smells great and lifts spirits.

    Lavender in my bath. Relaxation.

Tea tree for anything bacterial or fungal.

    Peppermint for headaches.

Eucalyptus for congestion. I make a balm with CO or I'll put a few drops in my shower. I wouldn't put it in your bath.. It burns.

I made an allergy balm with lemon, peppermint, lavender and eucalyptus mixed in CO. Helped LO when he was sick and my mom loves it. You rub it behind your ears and on your feet.

I was thinking as I made coffee this morning...has anyone here ever made a body scrub with coffee grounds?  Would you even use EOs for that?  I did for salt scrubs.  But I got an amazing coffee scrub as a gift once, and I was thinking about it when I tossed my coffee grounds this morning and wondering if I could make something like that myself.

    I did.. I wasn't a fan. I like using white sugar.

I use lavender oil mixed with coconut oil on LO's feet when she's having her supremely crank-ass days. A friend of mine uses the same combination as a moisturizer for her whole family (including her 6mo daughter).

Just have to be a bit careful because too much lavender can have the opposite of a calming effect. Also, in case it hasn't been said (I'm too mombified right now to remember): be careful when it comes to using undiluted EOs on the skin, and never do that on an infant for sure. Some sort of carrier oil is needed, even if all you have is EVOO!

Edited for wrong punctuation, stupid thumbs!

  • I just EOed the hell out of DH. Poor guy, his allergies are atrocious today- we had a big dust storm and he was working outside. Hoping it helps.

I also got some fennel to rub on my boobs for milk production- hoping it works!!

  • @pineconey‌ do you have a local bee keeper? Bee pollen is really good for allergies, but it need to be local for best results. We get it at the FM.
