I know we have a formula thread but I just want to know if anyone is using this, and if so 1. How long are you planning to use it? 2. Are you going to try to switch to regular formula and if so which one? 3. Did you switch from Similac?
We've been on it for 5 weeks, but pedi says I should try regular Similac but I'm hesitant bc this is working. But...will leaving him on this cause him to be lactose intolerant later? Thanks a ton for your feedback!!! :-)
My DD was on it from 6 weeks -12 months. It is a milk based formula. She had no problem switching to milk when she turned one. My DS has been on it since he was released from the hospital and will stay with it until he turns one and goes to regular milk.
Thanks ladies! That makes me feel better! I like it and think I will just keep him on it. He tried Similac very early on and had tummy troubles but could be bc he was a newborn! Unfortunately I have milk issues since day 1. still trying to give him some milk he gets only about 3-4 oz / day when I pump.
We went on gentlease for two weeks, it actually increased gas and fussiness for us so we switched to newborn.
Our only symptoms were reflux and one spot of blood in the diaper. Doc thought maybe trouble breaking down the protiens in the AR formula. I'm thinking now it was probably just a tiny fissure that the dr couldnt see.
We used it for a couple weeks and, like PPs, it increased his gas and he sit up way more. We use Target brand now and he's fine most of the time. He gets about 12-15 oz of formula daily depending on how much I can pump.
@ElTrain5 do you use any gas drops? The newborn is working better for you? Thx!
Yes and yes. We do has drops about 4-5 times a day. He is also on Zantac 3x a day so I alternate them. He seems to be ok on the newborn. Definitely fuller and less gassy then the gentlease. I think it was just too thin for him and was going through him too fast. I should say too though that we switched to that from the AR, which is like going from heavy cream to skim milk, so that may have had something to do with it.
Do you find that the newborn is thicker? I thought thinner maybe good for now here in TX bc it's soooo HOT the more he drinks maybe he will stay more hydrated? I even sometimes put a little less powder so he drinks more water

I think it's a tiny bit thicker but mostly it doesn't have the partially broken down protiens so he doesn't digest it as quickly.
I've heard you should never water down formula because too much straight water can be toxic to the baby.
