Challenge of the Week - This week is about your mental health. Do you what you gotta do. If that means meditate daily, then do it! If that means it's time to finally find a counselor, then do that. If that means just keep hanging on by your fingernails, then that's fine. Whatever you choose, make sure that you focus on your psychological functioning this week, in addition to your physical health.

Re: FU IF Fitness Check-in August 8th!

  • **warning**
For anyone that didn't read the thread, my beta came back at 24, which does not inspire confidence. I've also been wildly sick, so I've been eating crap and hardly moving at all. I even had to take a couple cold showers to bring my fever down below 100. My goal this week is just to survive to next Friday, so I'm in the fingernail group with the COTW. No idea if I'll survive alone or with company.

Hope everyone else is having better times than I am!!

  • Feel better soon @pblge‌, so sorry about the fever. You seriously need a break here! ((Sweaty FUIF fitness hug))

AFM, nothing really new. I'm doing good with my running, not beating the world over here but I'm actually starting to feel like I'm in shape. Yoga has been really helpful. I found some goofy fertility yoga on YouTube and although the lady awkwardly says womb a lot, it's good gentle beginner yoga and I'm noticing an improvement in my flexibility. That said, my BFF is coming tonight and staying for the weekend and I intend to drink and eat like it's going out of style. We were going to go waterfall rappelling but she's injured so it's going to be a less active time than normal!

  • @pblge I'm so sorry you are sick and dealing with beta hell at the same time, it's like insult to injury because you can't take any good stuff to feel better, but I do hope you recovery quickly and I'm hoping and praying hard for you for good beta news on Saturday.

@scooteriste I know which yoga instructor you are talking about! She is pretty entertaining. I'm sorry your waterfall rappelling (what is that? it sounds amazing) got cancelled, but sounds like you'll have a terrific weekend regardless.

AFM- I did join Medifast (holy cow is the program expensive and food is additional!) and it seems to be working- I've lost about 9 lbs since starting on Sunday!!! So I'm kicking butt on my goal, just need to keep up with it. It's super restrictive- you have to eat their food for five meals (100 calories each) and then a "lean and green" that is supposed to be around 300 calories (no more than 500), so chicken or fish and low carb veggies. And obviously no soda or alcohol, so I'm feeling a little like I'm doing a detox ontop of a diet, and that can only be a good thing. I can't start going to the gym for a couple of weeks because my calorie intake is so low, but I'm trying to walk more right now as a start. And maybe I should start that fertility yoga @scooteriste is doing.

Because the program calls for drinking 64 oz, I've been pretty good with the weekly challenge. It seems like I'm constantly eating or drinking on this diet, which is crazy. And some of the food is pretty good.

COTW: I think the mental health challenge is a great one. I need to work on it, so this is a good reminder. My first acupuncture appointment since IVF #3 is on Wednesday, and that is always a good time to work on meditation.

  • Oh no :( I've been on a bump break the past week..... I am so sorry @princessisadora‌.... I can only take your drink fest to mean that I missed a very sad announcement :( I think that some drinks are a great way to meet the COTW. It's important to blow off steam, so enjoy (and be safe). Sending hugs, dear.

And @pblge‌.... Beta hell and being sick?? Not nice, universe, not nice. I'm praying that things turn around for the better. Hang in there!!

@Carol77B‌, whoa! 9 lbs in a week?!? That is impressive! Though be careful with the low cal diet. If you do any exercise (including walking) just make sure to eat enough calories to compensate (you can get calculators online).

@HollowBerry‌, LOL!!!! Glad it was a good workout even if it was a total time warp!

AFM, 28 days until the marathon :D I ran 20 miles yesterday. It was tough!! But it's done. There's more about it on my blog if you'd like to read about it (link in siggy, sorry no clicky! I'm mobile).

In regards to the COTW, that's what I'm talking about :) we are on a mini-vacation (which is why I've been away from TB) and am in a very relaxed state of mind. I am seriously not thinking about TTC at all. Except when I take my BCP.

Off to the beach & a good book :) Go Team FUIF!!

  • First of all, what the heck does AFM mean? It's not listed in my handy dandy TTC glossary.

I joined a gym last Friday when I got my crummy beta results and walked fast on the treadmill for half an hour. Didn't go back for a week lol. I HATE gyms but really need to get in shape. My goal is 3 dresssizes or 30 lbs… and get rid of the back fat. Backfat must have been created in some terrible level of hell. I know it won't happen overnight because I created this mess over the past 10 years.

Yesterday, I worked out with a trainer (free intro session) and for 30 minutes, it kicked my butt in a good way. Of course now I am sore as heck. So, building the motivation to go back is tough. I have so many other things I can procrastinate with since teacher PD week is around the corner.

I also had my first acupuncture appointment yesterday. I know it's supposed to be relaxing and help me relief stress, but I was so anxious with all those little needles that I was sweating and heart rate racing. Doc switched to the "smaller" needles and it was a little better. But, I don't see how it will help. Still feeling hopeless about everything I guess. Need to improve my attitude for the next IVF in September.

@HollowBerry You are inspiring me to go to one the my gym's classes. That's awesome! Keep on burning!

@princessisadora I had many cocktails when I got my beta a week ago Friday. I feel your pain and hope you get stronger each day.

@Carol77B Wow! That's amazing weight loss!

@scooteriste Fertility yoga online?! That sounds so cool. Will you share the site with me?

@pblge (HUGS) I am so sorry for your pain right now. I hope your fever subsides soon and you have good news to share in the future. Take good care of yourself. Chocolate works wonders for me…

My goal for this month is to go to the gym 3 times a week and have a legit workout.

COTW: I am going back to the Resolve support group next Thursday. I am really not looking forward to reliving my crappy ending to the last IVF, but maybe sharing it with others could help them. Who knows? Maybe someone can relate… Do any of you go to Resolve meetings in your areas? Or with individual therapists?

BTW, does the ticker change each day? It seems like a static .png. How does that work?

And now I felt I got punched in the stomach. This now my second CP. • @princessisadora I always worry that my autoimmune disorders have something to do with my IF. I have had RA since 2001 and in the past 2 years developed Hashimoto's. Thyroid issues suck so much especially because they won't treat me for it. So, I just get to deal with the crummy symptoms. Would treatment for thyroid help a goiter and the awful "stuck in my throat" feeling? Or the double neck I developed with it?

@starlightgator‌ AFM = As for me :) And about finding the motivation to get to the gym (especially when you're dealing with muscle soreness)... Take one from Nike: Just Do It :) the hardest part about getting started is gaining momentum. You can do it!!

  • Hey All! Can I jump in here also ?? Id love to be able to get at least 10lbs off before starting my cycle in September. The way things have been looking its not going to be until late September since AF is no where to be seen :) I started the couch25k a few days ago again. I did it last fall and had really great results. I quit smoking a year and a half ago and found out now that I can breath I actually enjoy running. (who would have thought?lol) Once I started down this crazy road of IVF my running has been hit or miss so I figured this App would help keep me in check.

Funny from two days ago... I was running (treadmill is in the garage no tv) and set up my phone for the C25K app and my kindle to watch a movie on prime. I thought oh World War Z would be a good movie to watch while running... I thought it was something along the lines of Outbreak. All was going well and I was running faster than normal (probl due to the zombies and thinking I have to run faster) Then out popped a zombie and skiiiiiirt.... F bomb I almost fell off the treadmill. So mental note.... Don't run to a scary movie.... never a good idea :)

Mental Health... does drinking wine count? If so I can check that off the list :)

  • @justone13 - Welcome and great goals! That's a good treadmill story! I would have thought that would be a good movie choice, but I didn't think about the parts where you jump 10 feet in the air. Yikes.

@starlightgator - Do you have an endocrinologist, preferably one with knowledge about infertility? That could be a good first step, and one that would probably be covered by insurance. My understanding is that some acupuncturists are better than others about the pain. I did it for IVF #1 and IVF 2.1, but I eventually decided that there were too many needles in my life and it wasn't helpful. Other ladies swear by it, though!

@princessisadora - (((hugs))) Sending you lots of positive thoughts, and hoping that you're not hurting too much from last night! Will you have a conversation with your RE about this? Have you ever had the RPL panel done?

@RunCC37 - YAY!!!! Congrats on the 20 mile run. Serious ass-kicking there! Hope you add another good cheesesteak or similar.

@Carol77b - WOW, 9 lbs in a week! Cray, yo! Can you actually meditate during acupuncture? Impressive!

@scooteriste - We might need the link to that fertility yoga, if you don't mind. ;-) Sounds like you're doing great!

AFM, I'm a bit healthier and my betas increased nicely, but still very much in recovery and limbo. I've done a longish walk with the dog both yesterday and today (~2 miles) and wanted to pass out after it both times. Trying to eat healthier, too, so I'm crawling my way back to sanity here. Of course, all this may go flying out the window after Monday, so we shall see.....

  • @RunCC37‌ I really never thought of it until now. As my first cycle was experimental and was a last minute lets convert IUI to experimental IVF they couldn't quite pinpoint what went wrong and we had a CP. And now well this is my first ever positive in almost 3 yrs of trying and ended on another cp. So until now I just thought that egg and sperm didn't quite met and it was a Fert issue that ICSI could fix. Now not so sure what it is.

@pblge never needed to bring up an rlp panel and I think even if I mention it to the RE they may be on the fence about it as I only had 2 CP and some don't count cp as loss :(

Reminder, this is "yoga for fertility" and the instructor says some things that may be a little awkward/sensitive for us IF gals but try to give it a chance because she is a pretty good instructor.

  • @pblge Thank you. I went to an endo once but he pretty much said that since my blood tests didn't show anything outside of normal, he wouldn't treat me. My RE found a slight elevation in blood levels for thyroid but just called it Hashimoto's and said we would watch it more carefully once I have a BFP.  Just sucks so much because my neck is always uncomfortable, feels like I'm choking and trouble swallowing. So overwhelmed with doctors since we started IVF that I'm hesitant to try another endo.

  • welcome @Justone13! I think wine for the sake of sanity counts!! Cheers!! ::clinks wine glasses::

@scooteriste, when I first started running, I listened to music 100% of the time. Recently, I haven't listened to anything while running... I just go out there with my thoughts and clear my head. This particular run was with my best friend, so we were able to keep a conversation for the first 15 miles fairly easily. The last 5 miles, we were pretty dang quiet! I guess we were working hard!! ;)

Hi Ladies! So my final beta came back looking good, which I think means I need to ask how people feel about me doing these check-ins. When @penad5 (How are you, gorgeous?) got her BFP, she kept up the check-ins for several weeks, but this is almost a completely new group, so ladies might feel differently about it now. I won't be adding a ticker for a while (too depressing to see the same stages I've never been able to get past), so I'm happy to keep doing it IF folks are comfortable. If not, is anyone willing to take on the role? It's pretty simple--I think remembering and coming up with the challenges are the only hard parts. It's possible that this is a "charmed" position, too, so perhaps that's an extra incentive. ;-)

    What do you think?

  • I'd love for you to stick around @pblge‌ until you feel ready to move on. I love this weekly thread because it's about getting fit and how IF makes that more challenging. We don't usually do a lot of cycle talk, so I'd rather keep the grads here (though I understand that I'm probably in the minority). I miss @penad5‌!!! So my vote is you should stay and she should come back :)

I do understand that not everyone around here feels that way, so I defer to the group. In the event that we need someone to take over, I volunteer (as tribute. Sorry, had to do it, I'm rereading the Hunger Games series ;) ). And as far as it being a lucky charm, well, I'll take some of that luck!!!
