Pregnancy Books Recs

I know this is an old repeat thread question but I couldn't find the older post(s).

I'm looking for good pregnancy books/blogs, mostly for the birthing process and after pregnancy coping. I remember some people saying you should really read about how life changes and what to expect as a new mom to help prepare you for your new life.

Thanks and sorry for the repeat question!

Re: Pregnancy Books Recs

  • I'm not sure these are the best, but my cousin just lent me a series of books for pregnancy, birth and after called "The Girlfriends Guide to..." (whichever stage you're in). I JUST started looking through them, but they're written in an easy, light-hearted manner that is fun to read.

  • I'm with lissydee - Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Natural Childbirth is brilliant.  I'm also using the Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy to answer my more detailed week-to-week/what's going on with my body type questions.  It has good information on natural birth and on using pain medication, and I feel it's fairly unbiased in either direction.

  • I really liked "Expecting Better" - it's about the whole pregnancy but also focuses on labor/birth.

I also may or may not have fallen asleep reading about labor - I think that might be a bad sign. :|

This is so me. I know how important it is to research before hand but I get so bored with it. I really just hope to one day wake up and find my baby on my doorstep. That's what my parents always told me happened. ;)

Exactly! I'm hoping either the stork or my Amazon Prime membership will get my baby delivered. I get free 2 day shipping, too :)

Ohhhh....your baby could be delivered by an Amazon drone!!

  • I love love love Expecting Better. I am also a total nerd. So, ummm, yeah.
    :-B
  • I am reading. The working gals guide to babyville by hobey. It is more about you and the baby after birth but I am loving it and finding it very insightful.
  • If you want to laugh, Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy is funny. :)
