Just for fun - What's something...

I was thinking recently about some things I want to change about myself for DD's sake. What about the rest of you? Are there any things you say/do regularly, habits you have, etc. that you want to change before LOs are old enough to be influenced by it?

Re: Just for fun - What's something...

  • I have three main ones I want to work on.

    1. Stop (or decrease at least) swearing

    2. Choose healthier snacks and stop having ice cream for dessert every night

    3. My big one - frame comments about my appearance/body in a more positive way. I was talking to my sister at a wedding while holding DD, and I started to say "I don't like how my legs look with flats". I stopped myself and instead said "I like how my legs look in heels". I really want to teach DD to love and be proud of her body. It's a lesson I've struggled with, even when I was a teenager with a banging body (why didn't I appreciate it then??)

I have a terrible mouth, especially with the f word. :-SS
Me too! I'm just waiting for DD's first word to be the f-word. I need to stop BEFORE she starts mimicking us!
  • 1. Stop swearing. DD has already said damn and shit.

    2. Healthier snacks. I know right now DD will choose fruit over cookies, but how long will that last if mommy is always eating cookies.

    3. Less tv

    4. Better body image.

  • I need to work on managing my temper. We are a house of fiery redheads right now.
  • Less TV for sure! Especially during meals.

  • Swearing is my one, especially the F bomb. My patience, I really need to work on that.
  • Swearing for sure. Along with that I think watching my emotions in general. I can be short tempered, cry easily and lack patience. Those are things I need to control better around LO.
  • Tv, swearing, food. Continue to make efforts to be positive about my body and attitude
  • I really need to stop swearing so much, quit smoking again, and start exercising, and get more confidence in my decisions.

  • We need to watch our language, promote a more active lifestyle, less cell phone use and establish a routine for saving money so DS learns to save his money.

  • @itsmeally, in my experience, the cliche about redheads and tempers is decidedly true.

@peanutmuse My BIL is a redhead and probably the most chill, levelheaded, calm guy I know (/anecdote) - I was hoping DD would get his redheaded gene but maybe with a little more fire in her soul! Love a feisty redhead! (Although maybe it wouldn't be so fun in her toddler and teenage years)
  • We need to eat more veggies.  We are good about fruits and healthy foods overall, but man we don't eat many greens.

  • @worleygirl‌ The only way I can get DH to eat greens is this: you boil asparagus until it is almost cooked. Then you take it out and wrap it in Parma Prosciutto. Throw it in tinfoil and throw it on the grill for a few minutes. So good.
  • @sandfhasse thanks!  I will have to try that.  We like asparagus.

  • I have to work on being more patient, and I have to stay calm in stressful situations. I don't want DS to start picking up on my habit of freaking out and panicking about things all the time.

  • I need to Completely cut out soda. Nothing freaked me out more than having gestational diabetes and looking at all the sugar I normally would consume. I know it's absolutely horrible and has a million chemicals in it but I just love the bubbles. I don't want LO at risk for diabetes or any weight related issues. His dad and I aren't overweight or have type 1 or 2 but my grandmother just recently found out she had diabetes and the dr said I would be prone to get it in the future. Same dr that got irritated with me for gaining 20 lbs while pregnant... Grrr.

@chelsea3383 H LOVES pop but has been working really hard at clean eating. He bought a carbonator (I think that's what it's called) and he makes carbonated water and adds lemon juice. There are also juice mixes you can buy, some with less sugar or sugar alternatives. You get the bubbles without all the sugars and chemicals
