High-Risk Pregnancy

First Visit to Maternal Fetal Specialist-what to expect?

I had a pre-pregnancy consult with MFM back in May-before I planned to do another FET (as a referral from my RE). I was not happy with the meeting. Basically, they told me although my anti-cardiolipids were high, they weren't "high enough" for a diagnosis of blood-clotting issues. They kind of shrugged their shoulders when I brought up baby aspirin and said I could try it-probably won't do anything. BUT, they 'definitely wanted to monitor me for sonograms when pregnant'. I asked if they would do any intervention and they said no we'd just watch you-what good is watching going to do?!

Well, fast forward a few months....we took a break from doctors because I was so fed up with them. We got a miracle, natural BFP last month and had our first sonogram last week. (By the way, we got our only natural BFP after 2 months of taking BA after 2.5 year of ttc....tell me the baby aspirin didn't do anything!!!)My new OB-GYN said that everything looks great but her training tells her that based on my bloodwork, I should be on Lovenox in addition to BA. I was thrilled, but then she referred me to the same MFM (apparently the best one around. ugh). I told her my story about the consult and she said to try to go back now that I' m pregnant and mention her recommendation. If they don't listen, she'll send me elsewhere. But in the meantime-the clock is ticking and I don't want to lose this baby!! I called the MFM on Wednesday and they wanted to see me when I get to 12 weeks-um, no! You are missing the point. After much discussion, I managed to get in to be seen tomorrow. What do you think I should expect? Will they do a sonogram or no because my OB already did? I already know we are going to fight about meds but I don't know what else to expect. Thanks!

  • They usually do ultrasound and then you meet with MFM. Hope appointment goes well. ;)

  • Yep, to answer this question for anyone who reads it in the future....I had my appt today. They did an ultrasound (external at 8 weeks-I was surprised) and I got to hear the perfect heartbeat. :)
