Breastfeeding

Imbalance

I'm 99% sure we have an imbalance issue. My little is growing like a weed, he's gassy, has explosive watery mucous poops, thinks he must eat all the time ( but for short periods only), and he seems more uncomfortable at the breast, also recently started spitting up more. My ped thought maybe a dairy intolerance since we have had a couple poops with some blood, so I've been dairy free for a couple weeks with 0 improvement. I have tried only nursing him on side at a time but when he gets to the hindmilk he starts biting and pulling off. My husband said last night why don't you just pump. He has said it b4 but of course my overwhelmed self explodes at him when he says that. I have really thought about it today though and think I might give it a try and see if we see an improvement. Am I making a mistake? What should I do? Help please! Sorry it's so long.

Re: Imbalance

  • Also I already pump, since I went back to work a few weeks ago, and have been pumping at least once daily since 1 month old.

  • It's a thin layer if fat. And yes I think I have an over supply.
  • I just started pumping longer and the milk looks better, less blue. He seems to protest when breastfeeding when the flow slows down for the hindmilk. My poor nips are so sore.

If you do have an oversupply issue, you may want to take a break from the pump and try block feeding for a bit.  That may be tough though if he's protesting when the hind milk hits.
